Just a question , Is there going to be and under 18/19 type of competition for these young lads on the this post academy panel ? Not to sure if I can see lads just doing training

The GAA will have a hard enough job finishing out last years minor competition and then running off this years minor championship and u20 championship without adding another competition into the mix. In normal times I'd say there would be a strong possibility of some kind of Leinster competition or one with neighbouring counties like cavan Monaghan etc to give the lads games but really can't see that happening this year with everything going on

Read the 3 year development plan in full there and I'm am positive about what the CB are trying to do. Certainly reads very well and makes a lot of sense. However i would have some queries and I'm wondering would anybody on here have the answer.
1. Will like for minor and u20 Clubs be required to release their players for training with the development Squad? If they are not required to do so I can definitely see some issues with some clubs releasing the players. If the development squad train Tuesday and Thursday and a players club train those nights there will definitely instances of managers putting pressure on the players to train with the club over county.
2. If the development squad trains Tuesday and Thursday and their club train Wednesday and friday there will certainly be instances of club managers putting pressure on the players to train Wednesday Friday with the club as well as training Tuesday and Thursday with the development squad. This will lead to player burnout and injuries .
This plan needs complete buy in from everyone involved in meath football for it to be successful and unfortunately like everything there will always be the few who will just be looking after themselves and the best interest of the club they are involved in rather than the best interest of the player. I feel if some sort of rule is not brought in that requires clubs to release the players for the development squad a lot of young lads may be put in a difficult position of having to choose whether to go county training or club training.

Replying To Thelongwoodslasher: "leahy has some baggage, and to be fair to the man, there is always two sides to a story, but he needs to rebuild the last public narrative around him" I would normally be highly critical of how things are done at County Board level but all the announcements this week are in themselves really positive especially considering up until now everything in the inter county pathway has been at best, very disjointed. A lot of these appointments were confirmed even before the original Convention in December but nothing was announced till all bits of the jigsaw were together. No matter what people on here think, it appears Andy, Bernard Flynn & John Mc Carty were all deeply involved in the plan and I don't think John McCarty wanted the u20 job this year. The best thing is there is now a player pathway from Minor to U20 to Senior and a continuity in management established. Pity it took so long but we might look back in time to come and see this decision as one that finally changed the fortunes of our Senior team. Players will now buy in to the U20 management seen how serious the CB are appointing former County legends. Paul Nestor moving up to senior is also welcome although it will be his toughest challenge to date, but having watched both Meath teams (Minor & Senior) training on different pitches side by side in Dunganny before the lockdown it appeared the Minor was a much better session. I know people have doubts about Flynn been the right man for the job, I think all those people will be surprised after the 2 years how well he will have done. We can't look back on the mistakes made but look forward to better days now that definite structure is been put place and give everyone a chance to prove themselves. There seems to be great sense of cooperation between all 3 managers (with Andy agreeing Bernard can have 1st call on Matthew Costello, Cathal Hickey and Jack Flynn) which might not have always been the case. So for me the glass is half full after feeling it was completely empty after the Leinster Final. I have been on here stating "we cannot go on doing the same thing and expect different results", at least now they are trying to address some of the issues. One other major thing in our favour and which is not mentioned near enough is how lucky we are to have such a fantastic sponsor, Owen Brennan of Devinish. On behalf of all Meath supporters thanks so much for your generosity, we are truly blessed. I don't know the man but I see him standing out in the worst of weather watching Meath.

Doesn't state that but i definitely foresee some issues with clubs if they are not required to release the players for development squad training.

Well thats a start.......CB eventually takes notice. Good logic in attempts at continuity and succession ! ONE big question .....WHAT will be done at "development "and training sessions. What will change from here inline with our well documented requirements? Will it be clear that the end product is designed to meet and reach modern coaching standards mentally and physically? Will the CB install and maintain a regular monitoring system to measure progress as required? Hopefully this may help to avoid more of the same sub standard preparations of teams over the last few years. Good luck to all ,and hope this may be a beginning of a fresh approach!

Reading article in todays Examiner on how BF contacted Sean Boylan as soon as he heard the U20 job was his. Tried to get Sean to change his mind about Down job and throw his lot in with the Meath U20S. As expected Sean was not for turning on commitment made several weeks previous. Went on to say that John McCarthy will join new U20 management team as selector in 2022 and take over from Bernard in 2023. Hopefully, at long last CB has woken up.

I try to avoid naming individuals when I am critical on social media and try to only name units (ie County Board, management, etc), and would only name people if speaking positive in terms and as I said I am looking forward and not looking back but you asked the question and I will try and answer it as I saw it and trying not to be too critical as the point of my post was looking forward to new coaching methods at Senior, what was happening on the two pitches in training reflected in games in the championship, the high intensity of the Minor training was evident in the Minor games I saw on Tv especially with Meath tackling/in their face and the more technical less intense Senior was reflected especially in the Leinster final when there was almost no tackling/standing off. In small sided games at Senior training I observed, every time a player got a ball the first instinct was always to look behind to see who to offload it to, never to look up to see what was on/who was making runs, I may be very well totally wrong but it is just what I observed in Dunganny and although I was disappointed I was not surprised with what I saw in Parnell Park and not surprised either how well the Minors are going and I am aware we are talking different level. Anyway changes are afoot and I am feeling positive for the long term future with measures been put in place now, as we have had done good work at Minor and below with development squads over the last 5 or more years and it was from Minor onto 20 that was been neglected.

Very good point but is Sean currently our Director of Football?
You mention that he was recently appointed but that seems to have passed me by. I know that he was appointed a few years ago but I had assumed the term had finished.
But if you are correct that Sean is the Meath Director of Football then it is madness that he gets involved in the Down under 20's setup.
