Costello is already in the squad Mitchell has potential but still along way to go- - Agree with you on O'Rourke - he came on against Ratoath but made no impact I've said it before, I doubt there are many players that Andy and his management team haven't looked at - I would love to know how many lads he has had on the panel over the course of this year! Unfortunatly only one current player fits a "big retirement" Not doubting you, but hopefully your wrong.

Management have two league games to get a championship side ready, doubt if there will be much experimenting. The Dublin/Meath game is live on the Saturday night (eir sport). seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 29/09/2020 19:25:19 2294789 Link 16 |

Not a Meath GAA related post but Diarmuid Connolly has announced his retirement from Gaelic Football. The best footballer I've seen in quite some time, both feet, power, pace. What a legend of the game LoyalRoyal66 (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 01/10/2020 08:27:07 2294974 Link 1 |
Hes been one of the greats in a golden era for Dublin football, always remember biggy throwing a sneaky kick at him when he was on the ground in the leinster championship 2016 , Connolly got straight up and ran straight for him and biggy fell to the ground rather then face him, it was one of my worst days following meath football and it was real men against boys that day, Connolly was immense and was at the time in his prime for dublin, I wish him well in retirement.

Some excellent totals by young forwards in important games lately. Shane Walsh only 20 with 0-8 (4 from play and 1 mark) against Kells in the semi-final. Luke Mitchell 1-9 (1-5 from play) in the relegation playoff, Jordan Morris 2-3 (2-1 from play) in the same game. Aaron Lynch 0-7 (3 from play while beating the centre of defensive attention) against Bracks in the inter final. Shane Walsh probably the only ready for an impact for the senior team this year, maybe Morris off the bench. But encouraging signs for next year and beyond LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1523 - 03/10/2020 22:07:36 2295503 Link 9 |
Was at Dunshaughlin v Nobber, the lack of physicality from Dunshaughlin was very apparent, Mitchell easily pushed off the ball, no where near county materiel. Lynch looked good but got a lot of space

I would be happy every game to be pushed off the ball if I was scoring 1-9!

The lack of physicality can be remedied but not lack of football Morris was left wide open for both goals appalling defending Did nothing for the hour Physically developed but has had 12 months with seniors to thank for thatand still no improvement football wise and poor attitude Mitchell scored 1-10 yesterday and 1-8 in previous game v Senechalstown mostly from play or converting his own frees with lots of physical attention It was on one of these boards he's top scorer with Brian McMahon in the championship I wonder if he got the same break as Morris would he get to county standard Would have liked to see Lynch up senior to match with Lavin ,McGill Etc and a faster game but that will have to wait another year at least County are picking some players based on physicality and not football unlike the Kerry's and Dublin's who do it the other way around but what would they know ABK67 (Meath) - Posts: 62 - 04/10/2020 16:59:05 2295608 Link 2 |
Matt Moyles of Dunshaughlin showing great promise again after picking up an injury earlier in the year which hampered him this season. Another young player to watch alongside Mitchell and Costello from that club. Did well in the U20 campaign for Meath. Played very well Saturday against Nobber albeit a relegation game so not where Dunshaughlin wants to be. Agree with ABK67, we need to look beyond pure physicality. If all these Dunshaughlin lads are so good why are they the second worse team in senior I suppose they are favourites now for Keegan with all there fantastic minors coming in as well as the current great crop of youngsters Talk about looking through black and amber glasses head4dblackspot (Meath) - Posts: 513 - 05/10/2020 13:51:21 2295806 Link 0 |

Haha I actually couldn't be arsed with any inter county this year. Who wants to play in these circumstances and in front of empty seats. And if it means we play Div 1 next year again then I'm all got that!!! Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 10/10/2020 21:44:21 2296733 Link 18 |
Was of this opinion originally but with the club done I think the whole country is really looking forward to this now, touch wood though my understanding is it is exempt from a possible level 5 anyway under revised guidelines with elite sport. The format ought to suit every county going straight from club champ to county, players and fans alike. On players, I hear McBride has been given permission to join the squad for the campaign which is a nice addition, you'd have to think he will be in good nick and should be up to it in some form dunboynelad (Meath) - Posts: 227 - 12/10/2020 10:27:25 2296927 Link 0 |
Any kells players in and around it? Meath32245 (Meath) - Posts: 75 - 12/10/2020 15:04:45 2297019 Link 1 |
McBride still very young, however this must be good news for management. Fitness should not be a problem, hopefully he can get up to speed with game quickly. https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-40063202.html seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 12/10/2020 18:06:43 2297081 Link 15 |
