Meath Clubs In Leinster

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With the club championships over, it's onto Leinster club championships.

Clann na nGael Intermediate hurlers were already in action in the Leinster Junior club hurling championship a few weeks ago when they beat Maynooth. Their quarter final is against Westmeath Intermediate champions Cullion in Trim tomorrow at 12:30pm (before Kildalkey's game). If they win that, they'll be up against either Carlow or Wexford opposition.

Kildalkey set out to do what Kiltale couldn't during their five county championship wins in a row and win Leinster. They've been drawn on the opposite side to the Kilkenny and Wexford Intermediate champions so they've probably the easiest path to the final they could have hoped for. They're up against Offaly Senior B champions Seir Kieran at 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon. If they manage to get by them, it'll be a semi final against Bray Emmets or Scoil Uí Chonaill of Clontarf.

Clann na nGael's footballers are also in action in the Leinster JFC the following weekend against Westmeath opposition. They're away to Ballynacargy in the quarter final.

Nobber play Dunlavin of Wicklow away in the Leinster club IFC quarter final on November 9th. Win that and they'll meet either Mattock Rangers of Louth or Monasterevan of Kildare in the semis.

And finally, another Westmeath team as Ratoath play Garrycastle in Mullingar on Sunday week. Interesting to see how we fare in Leinster. I'd hope that we can give it a go as we all know how poorly Meath teams have done recently. If we were to win that game, it would likely be a massive game against the Dublin Champions two weeks later.

Best of luck to all Meath teams in Leinster and hopefully at least one club will have an extra bit of silverware at the end of the year.

Agreed. Looking forward to Sunday's game. I urge as many people from county as possible to go to Mullingar.

I think Seir Kieran will be strong.. They felt aggrieved being relegated from senior in offaly last year and were unlucky also... Id say they would still beat a good few of the senior clubs in offaly and they will be offalys strongest reps in the leinster intermediate in quite a while. It has the makings of a great game that could go either way

Right you are. Not a good day for either Meath team as both Kildalkey and Clann na nGael were dumped out rather easily.

I think Ratoath could do something in Leinster if they're focused on it. McGill, McMahon and the 2 Wallace's brings a fair amount of county experience that could match that of other teams.

For Leinster they have a good results page. Not updated instantly but at the bottom of the page it shows every result in every grade, hurling and football.

3 games this weekend, all away from home.

In the Leinster Junior championship, Clann na nGael play Ballynacargy in Mullingar on Saturday at 1:30pm, though I think it may be in St. Loman's rather than Cusack park. Clann na nGael are slight outsiders and I've no idea what their opponents are like.

Nobber are making the long trip to Aughrim at the same time to play Wicklow champions Dunlavin. Nobber are huge favourites and you'd expect that their forward line should be enough to see them through to the semi final.

On Sunday, we return to the scene of our 2015 Seán Eiffe Cup win as we play Garrycastle in Cusack Park. We all know Westmeath champions are no mugs as St. Loman's beat Simonstown a couple of years back at the same venue in 2017 while Garrycastle themselves made it to the All Ireland final back in 2012. They still have a few in their squad from that year, including Dessie Dolan of course. Garrycastle are slight favourites but I've no idea how we'll get on. All depends on how we approach it on the day. Hopefully we can get over them to play Ballyboden (most likely) in the semi final.

Best of luck to all the teams. Hopefully a better weekend for our clubs than last week.

Ballynacarrigy are a rough and ready team. They will hit hard often pushing the boundaries and more often than not, going over it. I know a couple of the lads from there ,as a very close business associate is from the village. Clann need to be prepared for what they will bring, that been said there has been nothing short of a continuous celebration in ballinacarrigy since they won the junior. I'd be hopeful of a Meath win in this one.
I know nothing of the Wicklow team.
Garycastle are what they are, very few in Westmeath outside of Athlone will be wanting them to win. And that goes double for me. But all that aside it's a big ask for rathoath but I'm hopeful

Can you shed some light on why Garrycastle are so disliked in Westmeath? I would have thought that any Westmeath person would cheer on a Westmeath club against a Meath one. And I'd wager that the vast majority of Meath fans would support their representatives in each Leinster competition.

I don't get your opinion that very few in WH will be rooting for garrycastle. What is the issue with them in WH then?

Ahh they are jack certainly around castledaly area. And Mullingar clubs wouldn't have much liking for them either.

Can understand a rivalry with Castledaly but it's a big jump to think anyone will want them to lose against the Meath champions. For starters Dessie is a bit of a legend. Think it it will be a good match.

Maybe. But was speaking to a former Lomans player who said he hopes rathoath kick the s€&t out of them.

Poor result for Nobber in losing by 6 to Dunlavin.
Though Clann na nGael stopped the rot by beating Ballynacargy 3-8 to 1-9. They're now faced with a big task of beating Kildare's Ballymore Eustace (who oddly won the Leinster Intermediate club championship in this decade).

You are hardly the most popular club in Meath yourselves. That said hope you go all the way but don't think for a minute all your nearest neighbours feel the same.

If ratoath can replicate their display of 2 weeks ago they have a great chance but will need to hit at least 90% of that... I think they might
