Replying To bdbuddah:  "I think some on here writing off the season too soon. Last 2 games a bit disapointing especially after first 2 games people were starting to think we were improving and possibility of promoation was looking realistic.
If we lose next 3 league games and get relegated I will agree things look terrible but I think we will end up winning 1 or 2 of our remaining games (5 points would be unlikely to see us relegated). I think we will end up staying in this division, mid table as usual. Easy to forget most years we have some dire performances in the league which people afterwards say are 'the worst ever'.
Last season I thought we were a little bit improved on previous Championship seasons, we actually won a qualifier match and there was no second half collapses to look back on.
Wait till we are knocked out of the championship to judge are we going backwards or forwards."
The way things are going this team could very very easily be beaten by Longford if this slump if not addressed immediately

Looks like we're going second bottom after today. Surprised at Cavan winning in Cork.

ClonardGael,

In other words, the relegation zone.

No surprise in Cavan winning, Cork have a very young inexperienced side, missing the Nemo lads and a few more senior lads injured and several retirements. Its still in our own hands to stay up, Cork at home Louth away and Down at home. None of these are going to well either. But as was evident from last two games we are going down unless there is a major improvement both on/off the pitch.

Can anyone tell me what the game plan is?? I just can't see one. Ok we don't maybe have the class of player we had in the past but if players have a plan then they can work within that. In last nights game when Tobin was inside at least we had some type of target to get the ball into and when we equalized I thought we had a chance. In my opinion both first half substitutes didn't make any sense. And as for our Goalkeeper, I just don't know what to say. Seems incapable of handling the ball properly, does not seem to know how to deal with a one on one suituation. Biggy in fairness did a lot of work last night but but most of it tracking back. No excuse for dropping frees into the goalkeepers hands from 35/40 meters out and and even worse inditment is no one getting in front of the goals to contest. We came out after the break and scored 3 in quick succession but the one thing that came across to me was there was no passion or Gee-up from any player. Someone to sound the rally call. Feel sorry for Brian MaMahon with the stumble. Was never in control of his feet but would have brought us right back into the game had he scored at that time. Might not have affected the result but would have given us hope. With regards to Daire Rowe, he was asked in but declined as he is in his last year of his college course and couldn't commit 5/6 nights a week.

Replying To Crinigan:  "Nonsense.

A few of our Comical Ali posters who know little or nothing about Meath club football but claim to be Meath's greatest fans because "by God" and "be Jaysus" and "passion this and "hit them hard that" thought that average and selfish club footballers from their own clubs were going to win all stars this year and that if you dared ask what exactly happened to our best players were not real fans.

Anyone with even a passing interest in meath football couldn't believe their eyes when the Meath squad was announced in the Chronicle before Christmas. It read like the Meath junior team announced on the eve of Leinster junior championship match, all the best players apart from Keoghan were gone. Divisive selfish figures Who one would have thought the McEntees would have no time for remained.

Presumably many of the county's best players won't play for this management team. That's why we have this poor squad. Nobody wants to be treated like children. I'm sure you can shortly add the pick of the bunch from the latest players to be messed around with last night. O Neil taken off in first half, Tobin taken off in first half - Boylan wouldn't do that, nor would Gavin or McGuinness to a team that is only developing . What was it in aid of ? To frighten them? Teach a lesson? Gain respect? Respect is earned, and management have to earn that respect the same as players do.You have to treat players with respect - this macho old fashioned bullshit ( there is a few managers in meath notorious for it, one who I think has managed every club at this stage and now none will touch him) doesn't work anymore.

The players rightfully will ask themselves who the fk are you and why am I taking this shit. There seems to be no culture or tactic to buy into. You'd think they'd at least ask themselves why all these players dropped off?

Maybe we'd be better off in Div 3 for a year or two at this point and rebuild from there."
I agree with you in relation to proper man management but im not sure about a couple of things you said, who on last nights squad would belong in a junior panel and secondly who are the " many of the county best players wont play" I can think of 2 who would come into that category , i.e that are of that standard and have not gone abroad to study work etc and turned down the chance to join the squad. Not having a go just wondering where you're coming from

I wasnt at the match. Had a cold so had to listen on lmfm. Very disappointed. But not surprised .
On lmfm Mattie was saying we were working hard . I think the lads confidence is low , the belief and with Paddy O Rourkes comments while admirable to be honest it didn't help us whatsoever.

We all have a responsibility here as well. Yes criticize be disappointed ,be angry but many of our young players probaly read this site and social media. And the whole pessimism, defeatist atitiude negativity surrounding the team is not good for morale. As I said be critical, very critical of bad performances. Nothing wrong with that. But also be reasonable and show a bit foresight. And stop the over reaction.

There is way to much overreaction when we lose. When we win to optimistic, we lose its the end of the world.

I never expected us to get promoted this year. I thought there was an outside chance and there actually still after todays results. ( What a mental division 2 is, who know whats going to happen next). I always expected this season to be up and down. Probaly no promotion and out in July. This is not a job that will turn around not in months, it will take years.

These players are low on confidence because they have had years of bad defeats at underage and senior level in the Meath jersey. Those years of bad defeats it will take years to instill belief in our young players. But we need to be patient and stop overeacting to every loss. The fact is Tipp r better team, every pundit every national paper every tipster on the net was predicting a Tipp win. Its no shock they won. They have sucess at minor and under 21 level. They also reached All.Ireland semi final 2 years something we havent done for 9 years. They have possiby have the best full forward line after Dublin and kerry in the country. And a very strong midfield. Its no shock they won. And they were playing at home with a shrewd manager.

This is a long process to get us back. I have said before it took Boylan 4 years Dywer 5 years and Mcgee 4 years to turn around Meath kildare and Offfaly. The only few times counties had sucess in the provience. People say that is irrelevant.

Well what about Kevin Walsh and Galway. In his second year Tipp also hammerd Galway by 9 points. And in his third year Roscommon hammered them by 8 points. In his fourth year they are 4 games unbeaten in div 1 after beaten kerry today. It took him 4 years to turn things around. Pat Gilroy in his second year was hammered by Meath by 10 points and in his first hammered by kerry I think it was double figures was it 17 points. ( Could be wrong with that figure). We could be going on losing streak now. But Down went 15 games without a win and kept the manager and reached Ulster final last year. Kildare have now lost 9 matchs in a row since they beaten us last summer and are now facing their 3rd relegation in 5 years. But I dont hear kildare folk saying O Neill has lost the dressing room. Michael O Neill in soccer lost his first 11 games in charge of the North. Did he lose the dressing room. He then turned things around and brought N Ireland to first tournament in a generation.

We need to be patient, we have only lost 2 games. This year will be up and down. I believe next year you will see improvement and like Walsh and Galway in 4th year real progress will be made. Our management has made mistakes. Taken of Tiobin and young O Neill were mistakes last night. To much chopping and changing in the full forward line. But for me since Boylan this is the only management I have had any real faith in. All the other managers CVs were not great ( Banty never won anything with Monaghan, O Dowd was to inexperienced, Coyler won or 1 or 2 matchs with Monaghan. It no surprise they werent a great sucess). This guy has a great CV . However the job is a massive one. But talk about him losing the dressing room does no one any good. Losing dressing rooms is when Waterford called Justin Mcarthy to leave. Or mass group of players walk off the panel like Cunningham with Dublin ( I know we had players leaving start of year but that was retirements and players working and studying aboard). Or players going on strike in Cork. We have just lost 2 matchs. Kildare have lost 9. Gilroy and Walsh had terrible defeats in their first three years. Did they lose the dressing room? No.

McEntee has to be given time. But we also need to stop this overeaction to every loss. Be patient and in a couple years things can and I believe they will turn around. People demand sucess now. They would wait. In my experience in football and even life, you have many ups and downs. More downs then ups. But of you keep at it. Things can change.

Ps Im still very disappointed about last night. And frustrated. But allot of the problems predated Andy. Midfield has been problem area for a long time. We havent a top class midfielder since McDermont. False actually we could have had three in Conor Gillespie Conor Nash Shane O Rourke. The loss of those potential 3 top class midfielders and Ronan Jones this year are massive. No county in Ireland even Dublin could afford to lose 2 or 3 top class midfielders. Its no coincidence that our last best seasons where in 2012 2013 when we had a strong midfield partnership with Gillespie and Meath. We have had bad performances in midfield every year eg Cork 2007 Limerick 2008 Louth and kildare 2010 2013 Monaghan 2014 Dublin 2015 Westmeath and many more.

We need to improve breaking ball. Another area we have been weak for last 15 years. We used to have breaking ball specialist eg Kevin Foley in 80s and Paddy Reynold jnr 90s. The amount of breaking ball they both won was unreal. The last player we had good at breaking ball was Seamus kenny. Its an area we need to improve. Ulster teams and especially Tyrone in 00s really worked on breaking ball. They hadnt a high fielding midfield with Cavanangh and Hughes. So to deal with Dara O Se they really worked at breaking ball. Its no coincidence the best I thought we had good at breaking ball was in 2011 under Banty with Grimley was coach. A Ulster coach. This is a problem area that like so many have predated McEntee by 15 years.

Overall be patient this year will continue to be up and down but in 16 to 24 months its not impossible that we could be doing what Galway r now. Walsh had very tough 1st 2nd and 3rd years. Only this years things have turned. We are in the same boat. There is no guarantee things will change. But there is a good possibility under this management things will upturn in 24 months time.
Until then we are in for a topsey turvey ride.

Its being tough two weekends for Meath football abd maybe we will have 3 or more tough weekends. But there is light at the end of tunnel. Its just going to take time. Basically years because for we are years behind the top teams and we are at a disadvantage with no underage sucess.

Galway have hd successful u21 teams. They were bound to come good some stage.
They have more of solid defence now with the addition of the Tyrone coach Paddy tally.

You speak a lot of sense. Look I was disappointed, actually very much so leaving thurles last night, more so than Cavan game, as while we were working hard the scores weren't coming, wrong option or whatever you want to call it, Andy or no one in management can put the ball over the bar, apart from Reilly who was mostly in opposition half we seemed very nervous of just having a go, I've heard Andy felt sean had injury, I don't know if that's correct or not, but he didn't seem injured to me.
That been said the bs that some who want Andy out like cringing is disgusting, players who are better bs, we have apart from those studying or away the best that's available, he wasn't seen on these pages until we got beat , when we drew with rossies or hammered clare not a peep out of those people.
They are NOT Meath supporters and hopefully will be ignored by the young players who you rightly say would probably be reading this site.

One more thing (Im sure Jinxie you will find that funny)

Galway are an enigma. The hurlers up to last year were criticised for not turning underage sucess into senior sucess. But they have been more consistent then the footballers. Galway could be turning the corner but league form can be misleading. Two year ago Roscommon had a similar brillant start to div 1 and reached a league final. But had a dreadful championship afterwards. The co manager left after the championship.
In 1992 Kildare had a great league campaign under Dwyer similar to Galway now and lost their first championship match to louth. I think.

Galway will need to do it in the championship . And in Croke Park. Galway have not won a match in championship in Croke park in 17 years with all this underage sucess. While they had huge sucess for 4 years 98 to 01. Before that they didnt win in Croker from 1984 to 1998 when they beat Derry. Since the glory years of the 60s Galway have a big reputation but its been very patchy compared to Mayo . In the last 30 years Galway have played in 3 All Ireland finals while Mayo in 8. I know Galway won Sam. But Mayo have beaten Kerry twice Dublin twice Tyrone Cork. Yet Galway havent beaten kerry in the championship in 53 years or Dublin in near 100 years. Galway are an enigma to say the least.
While Cork have had as much under 21 sucess as Galway. Dominated kerry at under 21 level for more then a decade. A Cork team that hammered kerry in Munster under 21 final and those kerry under 21 players won senior All Ireland in 2014. While those sucessful under 21 Cork players could now be heading to divsion 3. Cork are their lowest since the 50s. So stats can show allot of things.

The difference is I want Meath to be sucessful. You as a Cavan man need and and want Meath to not be sucessful. Would it make more sense to be enjoying Cavans great start to the league then been obsessing over us. No one in Meath bar a couple of villages in the north doesnt even think of Cavan. We did a week ago. But thats it.

There has been very few years in last 10 years where we have not shipped at least one very bad league loss each season. Everytime people say 'worst ever'. But people have short memories of when it comes to bad league defeates. This has been happening for years and years. I will judge this season at the end of the year when we are knocked out of the championship. Regarding the league any of the next 3 games are all potentially winnable, Of the teams we have left to play Louth are in a terrible state and Down had a bad loss to Clare today. Listening to some people here you would think McEntee has completly lowered the standard from previous years. MOD's last 2 years in charge were the worst time I ever remember being a Meath supporter, with continious collapses in the second half of Championship matches. The manner of the loss to Westmeath was the lowest of the low. Also before that Banty got relegated to Division 3. Ya a few players are not now on board, I don't know the exact reason for it but results have not been great in previous years with many of them onboard so I'll give McEntee a pass on that one.

Replying To royaldunne:  "You speak a lot of sense.
They are NOT Meath supporters and hopefully will be ignored by the young players who you rightly say would probably be reading this site."
If i am honest i didn't see any "Andy out " stuff on here ...did the admin remove it ? Was it disgusting stuff like setting up a big banner of "Andy out " at our next Meath game :)

But you are 100% right about young players reading on this site and might be effected and disillusioned by Meath football by the wanting "Andy out "brigade...just sit down with the last manger and he will tell you the effects that people on here have on players, Same thing is happening to Andy sadly !

Me and you Bud must stop this happening ....Two heads are better than one, even if one is a head of cabbage !

i make the Banner bud :)

Andy stays

Replying To Reco:  "Very good post but in kevin Walsh I feel he had a plan system trying to put in place needed paddy rally to come in to push it to new level. I can't see us with any system can you if you know please enlighten me. Not taking piss just need insurance we have one."
One more thing ( Im sure Jinxie finds that funny)

I cannot reassure anyone whats going to happen. I just have watched football for a long time all I know is you dont know whats around the corner. If anyone said in 2009 that Donegal would win an All Ireland in 3 years, or if you said in 1990 that Down Derry Donegal would win next 4 all ireland or that Clare would win an All Ireland in 95 or in 2013 a year beforehand , no one would have predicted any of that. The one thing for certain in the next ten years things will happen that no one can predict.

Galway had no plan in the last few years. Did you see Meath hammering them in 2014, drew with them in 2016 and beat them in 2017. They had no plan. They were hammered by Mayo in Walsh first season with no plan. They were hammerd by Tipp in Walsh second season with no plan. They were hammered by Roscommon in his third season with no plan. They were awful v kerry last year. Look how they played today v kerry. It took him 3 years to get promotion.

Galway supporters where very angry with Walsh after those defeats. Saying the same things Meaths fans are saying now v McEntee .Now he did bring in Ulster coach. And I have said we should also bring in some like Brian Milver James Mcartan McNultys McEntees Dooher whoever. Someone who is a good tactican.

Supporters have a role here. Boylan wanted to stay in 2006 with a 3 year contract. Supporters wanted himout . If he stayed I think he would have won his fifth All Ireland in 2010. Barry Banty and O Brien should have been given another year. 7 managers in 12 years. 5 managers in 6 years. It was madness. And that was steming from unhappiness from fans. I know the O Brien and the clubs voted against county board in 10 story. But alot of fans were not happy with O Brien eitheir. Now people said he should have been kept. But many where unhappy after dreadful performances v louth and kildare in 10. Do you remeber him playing Caoihim king a wing back at full forward v Dublin in 09. There was uproar. (It was a bad decision though)

Just give the man time Im talking 4 years. Expect some bad results but in the long term I believe he will do it. I cannot reassure anyone but thats what I belive. Its just my opinion. I just want Meath to be sucessful and believe McEntee is the only one who can do it. If he leaves where is this top class manager inside county or outside county who can turn us into this team people want. There is a serious lack of managerial talent out there. Name the manager please.

So our players are reading this I have one thing to say to the supporters and 1 to say players

Supporters go easy, yes criticise, we all want sucess. And if you want to write something negative write it. Its a free country. But try and be reasonable look at the fuller picture. And before you write think about if one of our young players will read this and how they will feel. We say our players are low on confidence. What role do the supporters have in that. Maybe none, But if you think they have , just be wary what you write. We all have a role to play. To paraphrase a famous qoute all the supporters on this forum dont ask what your county your county manager and county players can do you for you, but ask what YOU can do for your county.

To the players
You are credit to county and your parish, While things have been up and down and inconsitent lately, we know the work the hours the time you give to your county. For no money but just a love of jersey and county. To play for your county, means you have talent and ablilty, in your parish or area you come from you are the best footballer. County players means you have lots of ablilty.

We hear the stories you train 6 nights a week. That is to praised. I would never have had the determination the stamina to keep training to that level. Im sure very few on this forum too. Very few would outside the forum. While many young men your age are out partying , you guys are running in muck pushing yourself to your very limits. That is heroric and to be greatly admired. Proper heroes one and all. In a time when you will see so many fake idols, you guys are the real thing proper idols. Because not for money or personal gain you work so hard, but simply a pride in where you are born and bred. You are trying your best and while its been tough lately you have worn the county jersey with pride and honour that it deserves.

If you come from the lovely villages in the north or to the great heartlands around the south west near Tara or come from town and villages on the border near the midlands counties or if you come from the south near kildare or the growing vibrant new towns to the east or in the centre around Navan, our capital town, its doesnt matter where you come from in Meath north south east or west, you are Meath men trying to do great things for the county. You face tough challenges like a superstrong Dublin. but we have suceeded before and faced superstrong Dublin and suceeded. I cannot think of any young men better to take the fight to Dublin , you are credit to the county, parish, your community and , and while its look dark at the moment. I have seen enough in some your performances and have believe in your management led by the McEntee brothers that you will suceed. Keep up the great work, your time will come. And remeber Local Heroes live forever. AN MHI ABU

I think we will win next 3 games. Won't be enough to get promoted as the Cavan game was the sucker punch for us in this group

Shocking disappointed with that game, imo its probably the worst 70 minutes we have played.
Team were back in one of the hotels we popped into after game for bit of grub and they looked very deflated to say the least. I actually felt sorry for the boys when i saw them getting off the bus with their heads down. But to be fair anyone who approached them was shaking hands offering condolences and i actually felt a sense of pride with them in how they handled both negative and positive comments from people both sides, Tipp included.

Promotion is gone but the fight is now on to stay in this Division. A win on home soil this weekend is a must. So lets brush ourselves down and get out there again the weekend and get the win.
Please anyone who can make it to Navan... go, we need everyone behind the lads. HON THE ROYALS.
