Meath v Kildare Semi-final

We are absolutely blessed that Kildare beat us last weekend. After watching what the dubs did to Westmeath today I can't even begin to imagine what they'd do to us seeing as Westmeath are ahead of us at the moment

Ziggy, they gave us a huge headstart last time we played them in championship and still beat us. Until we beat them in championship its hard to say we are better

Westmeath are streets ahead of us. Never mind league standings that's irrelevant. Beating us numerous times at underage level and at senior. Also contested last 2 Leinster finals so yeah even the most die hard of Meath fans like myself can admit it.

We would definitely be favourites if we were drawn against them, ya they got promoted this year to div. 3 but we were not far off reaching div. 1 this year. Just because they finally beat us the last time they played us 2 years ago (at about their 25 attempt or something) does not mean they are now rated higher than us. Bizarre and crazy post saying they are streets ahead of us.

I think we are better then Westmeath but sure that's no achievement .like most teams in the country We would have got a battering yesterday if we were playing the Dubs. We are a very average division 2 team who haven't had the players to compete at the top level for well over 10 years now. All we can do now is focus more on our under age and increase fitness levels.

I was trying to keep out of this, but I am afraid I cant. Westmeath are not streets ahead of us, they are actually not that organized at all, poorly trained and over depending on a very old style of play.
Even Meath effort v Kildare would beat Westmeath. Honestly its a shambles of a set up. I know this cause I live in the county. Trust me they nit streets ahead of anyone

I'd say Meath and Westmeath are both at the same level of mediocrity, put it this way I wouldn't be confident that we would put them away. I still think Kildare will get within 10 points of Dublin as I think they are a level above us and our western neighbours....... should we merge or would it make any difference?.

Westmeath were dire yesterday and Dublin were top class. I don't think I have seen Westmeath as bad in the last 3 years. They have no midfield yet they decided to kick long and got roasted. The first 15 minutes their backs defended like tigers and their forwards kicked a few nice scores but the writing was on the wall because they had no plan with their kick outs. Now we wouldn't have done much better yesterday so no point in bashing Westmeath.
Kildare will do a lot better but I still expect Dublin to win if they put a performance like that in again. Kildare have a game plan, a good midfield and 4/5 forwards that can get scores. They will need to make Cluxton kick long because conceding the kick out to Dublin is a criminal offence that's usually punished with a score. After that they will need a lot of luck.

The truth is that you need the raw material to work with.

Look at the winners of the minor championships over the last 5 years you'll get a good idea of who's at the top now. In Leinster since 2012 Dublin or Kildare have won the Championship. The same is true for the U21 level.
You have to go back to 2008 since Meath won a Leinster minor and 2001 (16 years ago!!) since we won the U21, we were knocked out by Westmeath in the 1st round this year!
Until that changes no amount of training or fantastic S&C coaches or bravado from the manager will make a blind bit of difference. Consistent production of winning underage teams will filter through to the senior setup, particularly in a county with a strong tradition like Meath.
Meath may not have been beaten by as much as Westmeath yesterday but it still would have been a stroll for the Dubs.

With the way the game has developed if any county aims to get to the top they need to have developed the players from a young age. We really were left behind in this regard for years. You hear things are improving but the proof will be seen in the next few years.

Kildare and Dublin did very well underage in the last few years ..Kildare underage system and coaching is the exact same as Meath.

Lets say Meath gets the best of everything to develop there underage system to be world class, it still doesn't make a young lad want to play gaa sports !

What i am getting at like it or not but Kieran Mcgeeney Kildare team of the 2007 until 2013 made young lads from Kildare want to play football and take a interest in it..its the bounce you get when you're seniors are going well ! Why did Rugby become so wonderful in this country ? Fastest growing sport in this country over the past few months is MMA sports ! The Conor Mcgregor effect ! Snooker in the 80s...soccer in the 90s, Meath team 86 to 91 gave birth to 1996-1999 winning team !

When things are going well at the top its a easy sell to get young Lads interested in Football .

When a senior football team is going well and making progress everybody is interested and everybody wants to be a part of the progress ! Meath gaa years ago got everything and help when asked ..i seen people give Blank cheques to Meath football years ago ! But if you are doing nothing at the top (senior) you get nothing sadly from the bottom (under age) !

They were talked about...won all stars and a player of the year award ! Their was buzz in Kildare when Mcgeeney was in charge ! If you can cast you're mind back Ziggy hoganstand had a lot more Kildare posters on hoganstand back then also ! Thats all you need if you never really had much to begin with !

If Andy had the same kinda success as Mcgeeney (4 quarter final appearance, all ireland semi final..division 1 football) ...would you not be happy enough Bunny Ziggy ?
