The St Marys club as a whole was saddened to hear of the passing of one of their own in Al Everard on Sunday evening, following a long illness fought with incredible strength.
It was the same incredible strength which came to typify Al’s association with St Marys from the very beginning. After first rising to early prominence winning St Marys Player of the Year in 1978, Al then carried on in the same vein by being a part of the clubs 1979 junior championship success, as well as the intermediate final appearances of 1983 and 1985, often overseeing proceedings from centre half back.

As a Marys man to the core, after his playing days finished Al continued to give back to his beloved club. Whether it be taking part and helping out in the blotto with his brother Pat, giving the fence and goalposts a lick of paint or making the wooden benches which adorn the front of our clubhouse, Al made sure to make his mark for the green and red. There was fewer prouder than Al when his club reached the heights again of league and championship in 2025, and it’s memories made with Al that will be treasured by his close family and friends for years to come.
Survived by his beloved wife Josie, sister Catherine, brothers Pat, Paul and Stephen, and a wide circle of close family and friends, may Al RIP.
