In the end, a five-star display from Sean Lahart was the difference. The Kildalkey centre-forward finished with a very impressive 5-7.

Wolfe Tones made a bright start with points from Harry Foran and Padraig McKeown. Lahart opened Kildalkey’s account with a goal and, for the remainder of the half, they took control.

A second goal for Lahart was followed by points from Levin McNamara, Henry Muldoon, Sam Dolan, Lahart and Jack Carroll before Lahart raised green flag number three to give his team a 3-5 to 0-4 interval lead.

By the end of the third quarter, Kildalkey had opened up a 4-11 to 0-6 lead, with Lahart contributing 1-6, and looked set for a comfortable win.

To their credit, Wolfe Tones never gave up and were rewarded with two quick-fire goals from Padraig McKeown.

Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished soon after. Brian Connor, Lahart and substitute Cillian Davis added points before Lahart rounded off a remarkable hour’s work with a goal from a sideline cut from beneath the Moylagh clubhouse.

After the game, Niall Gogarty presented the cup to Kildalkey captain Cormac Prior.
