Rathkenny 1-23 Kilbride 1-4

After a draw with Dunboyne in their opening round Rathkenny proved too strong for last years Intermediate Football Championship winners Kilbride in this SFC Group A round 2 clash at Tony O’Callaghan Park Duleek.

Joey Farrelly’s men were always in control of this tie. Luke Kealy opened their account and by the end of the first quarter they led 0-6 to 0-0 with points from Christy Meade, Ciaran O’Hare, Keith Curtis and Kealy (2). With five minutes remaining in the opening half O’Hare made it 1-9 to 0-0 with a well worked goal. The winners led at the break 1-11 to 0-1.

Kilbride made a great start to the second half with 1-1 inside the opening two minutes but that’s as good as it got for Anthony Moyles men. Two from Keith Curtis and another Kealy effort steadied the winners ship. Joey Curtis and Corbin Jenkinson added their names to the scoring sheet as Rathkenny ran out comfortable winners. 

Rathkenny face Keegan Cup holders Summerhill in round 3 while Kilbride face neighbours Dunboye,
