For the third time in four years, Cortown opened their Junior B campaign with a win over Meath's newest club, Eastern Gaels.

It was all too easy for Davy Wright's side who dominated the opening half. A brace of first half goals from Championship debutant Kian Fitzsimons along with a series of points from Tommy Smith, Oisin Smith, Captain Ciarán Keating, Elliot Reilly, Jake Coyne and a two-point free from Colm McGearty had the team in yellow 2-14 to 0-1 to the good.

The East Meath side started the second half better with a point either side of the interval. Ross Molly led the charge for the Gaels and struck a sweet two-pointer but he was denied from the spot later in the half.

Despite labouring, Cortown did eventually extend their advantage with Fitzsimons completing his hattrick and Paudie Rennicks also marking his Championship debut with a goal off the bench to complete the rout.

A solid night's work with stiffer tests ahead, most notably Boardsmill in a fortnight. Three Championship debuts including an excellent performance from Cian Madden at corner back, Fitzsimons finishing with a personal tally of 3-6 and a goal from Rennicks off the bench.
