Rathmolyon 2-20 Dunboyne 1-12
Up until last year Rathmolyon spent 13 years trying to get out of the Division 3 hurling league but back to back promotions will see the Village ply their trade in the top division in 2027. For Dunboyne it was their 3rd year in a row to fall at this final hurdle.
The winners got a great start on a perfect surface at Batterstown with three unanswered points from Jarlath and Simon Ennis and Joey Christie but they were pegged back with the games opening goal from the impressive Jason Gleeson. A point separated the teams as the first half entered the last ten minutes but Rathmolyon finished the stronger. Daniel Callaghan (2), Martin Forde and Jack Payne raised white flags to send their team to the half time huddle 0-12 to 1-6 in front.
Brian Gilsenan’s charges dominated the second half. Goals from Daithi Grehan and Forde in the third quarter give them control. Outstanding points from Christie, Simon Ennis and Payne set the Village up for a comfortable win in the end.
No doubt these two sides will have serious ambitions of winning the Intermediate hurling championship later on in the year.
After the game Liam Keane presented the Division 2 hurling league cup to keeper John Harnan.
