The Meath Masters football team made it maximum points from three games after a strong second-half display helped them chalk up a 2-14 to 0-12 away win in Kildare on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals remain unbeaten in their inaugural season competing in the Gaelic Masters Championship – but this contest at Colgherinkoe GAA club was hanging in the balance until the closing stages when the visitors pulled away.
Meath, playing with the wind at their backs, led 0-9 to 0-8 at half-time so Kildare would have been hopeful of using the breeze to overturn that deficit after the break.
However, a really well worked goal by Gaeil Colmcille’s Keith Reilly early in the second half proved to be a pivotal score in the contest.
Kilmainhamhood’s David Russell added a second goal late on to help Meath seal the victory.
Drumbaragh’s Willie Arkins was again very solid between the posts, while Donaghmore Ashbourne’s James Flavin was a steadying presence at centre back and Trim’s Owen McGrath was a constant threat in attack.
The team was captained on the day by St Patrick’s Ray Russell.
Meath now face a trip to the capital in a fortnight for a clash against unbeaten Dublin.
