St. Michaels Lee Morris gets away from Castletown's Evan Hoey during the Division 3 FL clash at Castletown

St. Michaels 1-13, Castletown 0-13

A well struck Shane McDonnell goal ten minutes into the second half secured victory for St. Michaels when they visited the home of their neighbours and division 3 rivals Castletown on Saturday evening last. St. Michaels survived a late second half comeback from the home side to claim a hard earned three point victory in what was an entertaining contest.

The game was played at a fast pace throughout with Gearóid O'Malley setting the tone for proceedings by opening the scoring with three points ( 1 free ) in the opening nine minutes. Castletown replied with two of their own before Matthew Halpin floated over a good effort from play, Castletown won the St. Michaels kick-out and sent a two-pointer between the posts to level the match. O'Malley hit the target twice more before the break but it was the home side who finished the half the strongest with four points including a fisted effort and one from a placed ball to lead by two at the break 0-8 to 0-6.

The game was level two minutes into the new half when O'Malley floated a two-pointer over from a placed ball, he put his side back into the lead with another great effort from play before McDonnell rattled the net with an unstoppable shot on 40 minutes. Castletown rallied with points of their own but another Halpin point and and a Lee Morris minor from play kept the home side at arms length and although Castletown gave it their all in the final ten minutes a brace of points from Shane McDonnell saw his side over the line.
