FL Div 3: Castletown run out 13 point winners in Kilcloon

Castletown 4-17 Blackhall Gaels 1-13

Castletown made the long trip to Kilcloon on Saturday evening to take on the hosts in round 6 of the league. The visitors ran out 13 point winners in the end and are currently sitting top of Division 3 with 6 rounds played.

Castletown were the quickest off the mark with the first score of the game coming in just the 2nd minute from a free from full forward Daragh Weldon. The hosts opened their score just seconds later. 2 further scores from Killian Price and Declan Cribbin were needed as Blackhall got the next 3 scores unanswered to leave them 1 point ahead with just 10 minutes on the clock. Killian Price stepped up on 10 minutes to settle Castletown with a fantastic goal. Blackhall had the very strong wind with them in the first half and made the most of it with some brilliant and quick shooting from their forwards with a further 3 points (1x2pointer) inside the first quarter. Two further points from play from Daragh Weldon to leave the sides level once again on 20 minutes. A very even opening half to the game meant scores needed to be patiently worked for Castletown especially against the wind. Declan Cribbin added 2 more points from play to his tally right before Daragh Kelly got his first score of the day with a great goal on 32 mins to leave Castletown 5 ahead going in at half time.

Half time score: Castletown 2-7 Blackhall Gaels 0-8

Blackhall were the quickest off the mark after the restart with a point from play to narrow the margin to just 4. Cribbin however once again stepping up to extend the lead to 5 with a brilliant point from play. Another point for Blackhall on 37 minutes gave the indication this half could become a tight game once again however this would be their last point for the next 15 minutes which Castletown went on to completely dominate. With the wind behind Castletown in this half, the lads took advantage of it and kicked some super scores inside a 10 minute period : Daragh Kelly another point from play, Daniel Moran with a brilliant 2 pointer, Kevin Ross a palmed in goal and 2 pointer and Adam Matthews registering 1-1 within 90 seconds of each other. By the 50 minute mark there was now 16 points between the sides. The hosts however continued battling hard and ended up outscoring Castletown in the final 10 minutes registering 1-3 in this time (2 free). Castletown ended their scoring of the game with a free from Rian Monaghan for his first of the day and a excellent 2 pointer from play for Daragh Kelly to finish top scorer on the day.
