St. Michaels 0-12, Dunsany 0-08
St. Michaels got their division 3 football league off to a winning start claiming a hard earned home victory over Dunsany in Carlanstown.
The hosts were slow out of the blocks taking 14 minutes for Sean Hardy to open their account with a fine effort from play. Sharp shooter on the night C.J. Lynch was in scintillating form throughout adding his first from a free shortly after and to underline his intent he added a further two points, one from a placed ball to put his side one to the good at the short whistle, 0-4 to 0-3.
Dunsany opened brightly with a superb two pointer from a free on nine minutes but they could only manage a further converted free for the remainder of the half as they wasted many scoring opportunities in front of the posts.
The second half seen Lynch begin to exert serious influence on proceedings, his physical presence and sharp reading of the game allowed him to dominate the forward line as he added three minors in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Paddy Finnegan stretched the lead to five before the visitors struck their opening point of the half on 40 minutes. Dunsany added a further three minors (2f) to complete their tally for the evening while at the opposite end C.J. Lynch split the posts a further four times for a well deserved victory.
Both sides were reduced to 14 men as a result of black cards, Dunsany in the opening half and St. Michaels in the second half.
