Tailteann Cup: Nobber's second half fightback falls short

March 05, 2026

Nobber's Karl Casserly

Nobber 1 – 14 (17) Curraha 2 – 12 (18)

Nobber welcomed Curraha to their home grounds on Wednesday evening last in Round 3 of the Tailteann Cup pre-season competition. A dry, crisp night played under lights where spectators were treated to some entertaining football at times by both sides. Little separated the sides in the opening quarter with both sides trading scores, the black and ambers shooting into the O’Carolan College end of the ground with scores from wing forward Conor Owens, corner forward Dale Larkin, and veteran Niall Farrell. Nobber held a slender lead at the half-time break thanks mainly to a soccer style finish by Joe Tierney.

Half-time score – Nobber 1 – 5 (8) Curraha 0 – 7 (7)

There was very little between both sides throughout the game in fairness and the game could have went either way in the end. After the third quarter the game remained level with both sides registering 1 – 8 on the scoreboard. Dale Larkin proved reliable from placed balls and Farrell registered yet another white flag for the black and ambers. Nobber conceded a penalty in the final quarter where Curraha finished coolly to the back of the net. This arguably may have seen a swing in momentum of how the game went with Curraha marginally coming out on top in the end.

The Dublin border side built up a slight lead but Sean Carolan’s charges never gave up and trimmed back the lead to just one point in the end. Larkin had his shooting boots on and he added to the Deesiders tally along with the experienced Karl Casserly splitting the posts towards the end of the game. However, it was not enough for the Nobber men to take anything from the game. The black and ambers have the weekend off with their the A League Division 4 campaign not too far around the corner, the team and management will have learned plenty over the Tailteann Cup campaign.

Next up for Nobber is an away trip to Moynalty on Sunday, March 15 in Round 1 of the league with an 11 AM throw in time.
