Matthew Thompson netted twice as Galway came from behind to defeat Leitrim by 2-19 to 0-14 at Tuam Stadium to move into the Connacht FBD Football League final.
Thompson’s goal in the opening minute gave the Connacht champions the perfect start ahead of Leitrim hitting the front with scores from Killian Gaffney (2 two-point frees) and Riordan O’Rourke.
Eanna McNamara, another free from Gaffney from beyond the arc, Ryan O’Rourke and Jack Kelly shot over scores to move Steven Poacher’s men towards a 0-10 to 1-4 half-time lead.
The home side got motoring early in the second-half with a Thompson two-pointer and wouldn’t look back once the same player hammered in a 45th minute penalty which made it 2-9 to 0-13.
From there, the scores of skipper Kieran Molloy (two-pointer), Brian Cogger, Shane McGrath and Oisin McDonagh had the Tribesmen on their way to an 11-point victory.
