There are two new elected officers on the Meath management committee following Monday night’s county convention in O’Mahonys GAA clubhouse.

Curraha’s Tony McEntee was elected treasurer after defeating the outgoing Gene Smith (Nobber) who had held the position for the past three years. McEntee was elected by 111 votes to 86.

The other newcomer is Lara Campion (Skryne) who was elected to the position of Oifigeach na Gaeilge without a contest with the outgoing Cathal Seoighe (Clann na nGael) standing down.

Outgoing chairman Jason Plunkett (Clonard) was re-elected with a resounding vote of 150 against 46 for outgoing vice chairman Damien Griffin (Na Fianna).

The contest for vice chairman was a much closer contest with Griffin edging out outgoing assistant secretary Nick Fitzgerald (Kildalkey) by 100 votes to 96.

In the only other contest outgoing Central Council delegate Conor Tormey (Donaghmore/Ashbourne) saw off the challenge of Joseph O’Brien (Skryne) by 159 votes to 35.

Secretary Ciaran Flynn (Dunsany), assistant secretary Fitzgerald, assistant treasurer Elaine Carolan (Walterstown) coaching officer Eamonn Barry (Walterstown), PRO Brian Kelly (Seneschalstown) and Leinster Council delegates Mairead Delaney (Dunshaughlin) and Raymond Finnegan (Gaeil Colmcille) were all returned unopposed.

Joining them on management will be four appointees – Michael Bennett (O’Mahonys) Children’s officer; James Kelly (St Colmcille’s) health & wellbeing; Shane O’Brien (Simonstown) demographics; and Tomas Brady (O’Mahonys) planning and training.
