Cumann na mBunscol: Second Shield title for St Olivers

St. Olivers Caoimhin Cornally skips away from Cathal Ó Diarmada Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg N.S during the Boys Division 1 Shield final at Lomans Park

St. Olivers claimed their second Meath Cumann na mBunscol Boys Division 1 Shield title after this six point win over Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg in the opening game of the day at Lomans Park Trim. The Navan school last tasted Shield success in 2022.

The Dunboyne school, playing with the wind led 0-3 to 0-0 after 10 minutes with points from Harry Ó Leathlobhair (2) and Lochlann Ó Donnchú. St Olivers grew into the game and in a space of ten minutes they found the back of the oppositions net three times. Layton Conaty got the ball rolling, Ben Murray’s long range shot deceived the keeper and soon after goal number three arrived courtesy of full forward Michael McAteer. Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg finished the half with three points to leave it 3-0 to 0-6 at the break.

The team in Black and Amber were right back in the contest in the opening minutes of the second half with an Aaron Ó Conchubhair goal but that’s as good as it got and St. Olivers dominated the remainder of the game. Chloe Lane pointed before joint captain Jack Bellew registered 1-2 to seal title number 2 for St. Olivers.

After the game captain Jack Bellew was presented with the Division 1 Shield by Padraig Farrell.
