St. Ultan’s got the scoring started on 2 minutes with a point from play. Some very good build up play from the Syddan attack followed, Darren Smith crossed a ball over the goal area to Andrew White, who took an excellent shot for a goal on 5 minutes. Andrew was on the attack again a minute later with a fine point from play. Syddan held most of the possession in this 5-minute spell. Thomas Meade having cleared his defence lines, kept his run going all the way up the field and found himself on the end of a great attack to slot over a point. Eoin Lynch Duff followed up with another point Syddan were 1 – 3 to a point up with 10 minutes gone on the clock. St Ultan’s got to grips with the game, and after a bit of a pile up in the Syddan defence they got a shot away and got themselves right back into the game with a goal. They followed that up with a point from play. Darren Smith got one back for Syddan, to leave 2 between the sides. St. Ultan’s came back again with a point from play, to leave the minimum between the sides again. Cormac Dardis got an excellent 2 pointer free, after having some practice shots from 45’s that the St Ultan’s defence fisted out of play. St. Ultan’s finished the half with a point from play.

Half Time Syddan 1-6 St Ultan’s 1-4

The men in Green and Black, came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. They had a comeback on the cards, before the men in green and gold hoops got a score on the board. St Ultan’s got 2 points in quicker succession after the restart, to leave the sides level. Then disaster struck for Syddan, when a run of play from midfield, opened the Syddan defence and blasted passed Oisin O Hare in the Syddan goal to give themselves a 3-point lead with only 8 minutes gone. They followed up with another point from play, to leave 4 in it, and looked like they would push on from here. However, in the next 10-minute spell, the Syddan boys had other ideas, and with a point from a free from Padraic Dillon, and Cormac Rafferty from play, left 2 between them again. St. Ultan’s kept their scoring up, with another one from play, but that was soon cancelled out with a fine point from Padraic Dillon from play narrowing the score board to 2 again. Syddan forwards kept good control of the ball and took their time in attack. Cathal Dardis got himself in a good position for a 2-pointer, and with good shooting the ball went over, to bring the Syddan side back level. His brother Cormac followed up with a 2-pointer free, to put Syddan in front by 2 for the first time since half time. The game was still in the balance for either side, and St. Ultan’s got one back from play, with 5 official minutes remaining. Syddan closed out the end of the game the better with points from play from Jodi Donoghue and Shane O Donoghue, to give themselves a 3-point lead going into injury time. Syddan defence held tight for the injury time minutes played, and secured the ACFC Div 5 title, to end the year with Silverware.
