Fionnain O’Connor put the men in black on the scoreboard first but by the 15th minute the Kells men were in for two goals. Full forward Oisin Walsh got the ball rolling, Walsh and Neil McGinley traded points before Andrew Gormley struck for goal number 2. Walterstown responded with three unanswered points from Eanna Holland and McGinley (2) and with minutes remaining three points separated the teams until half forward Eoghan Flynn stuck for the winners third goal and Gaeil Colmcille went in at the break 3-4 to 0-7 in front.

Walterstown were right back in the game with ten minutes gone in the second half. McGinley converted a penalty to leave it 1-9 to 3-5 but again the Kells men responded. Gormley pointed and minutes later Jack Hogg was in for their fourth goal. To their credit Walterstown never gave up. McGinley and O’Connor added a brace each but the second goal they required never arrived. Andrew Gormley made it a three point game just before referee Paul Mooney blew the full time whistle.

After the game Ray Finnegan presented the Larry Kearns Cup to Gaeil Colmcille captain Rian Early
