Navan O’Mahony’s 2-15 Drumree 0-08

Navan O’Mahony’s qualified for the final of the JBHC with a comfortable win over Drumree after pulling away in the second half. Kilmessan provide the opponents in the final.

With O’Mahony’s against the wind in the first half, the sides swapped points in the opening three minutes with Paddy Skehan scoring for his side. A fourth minute goal from Shane O’Brien gave O’Mahony’s an early advantage, before Drumree pulled one back at the opposite end of the pitch.

Two Skehan frees in as many minutes left four points between the sides midway through the half. Drumree then began to take advantage of the wind, scoring a free and three points from play to draw level with three minutes remaining. Donal Rice scored a late point approaching half time, to give the Brews Hill charges the advantages at the break.

It took O’Mahony’s a few minutes to adjust to the wind behind them, with three wides in quick succession at the start of the second half. Three minutes in, Drumree took the first score of the half and the sides drew level.

After another couple of wides, O’Mahony’s settled and Barry McEvoy split the posts, repeating the feat within sixty seconds. Andrew Snow followed suit a minute later to leave three points between the sides. Drumree had two chances close the gap but struggled with frees against the wind.

Points from Skehan and Niall McKeigue left five points between the sides midway through the half and O’Mahony’s had the momentum to push on from this stage. Seven points separated the sides when Sean Davis found the net to leave the result beyond doubt.

Skehan added further points and a Brian Dunne point was the final score of the day, leaving O’Mahony’s progressing to the final in two weeks time.
