Tipperary GAA is in mourning following the death of two-time All-Ireland SHC winner Tom Ryan in England last week.

The Killenaule clubman won All-Ireland senior hurling titles with Tipp in 1961 and 1962, having previously represented the Premier County in football and hurling at the minor grade in 1959.

That same year would see him playing a key part in Tipperary winning its 12th All-Ireland minor hurling crown.

He would break through to the senior ranks the following year, winning a Munster senior hurling title, although that year’s All-Ireland final saw Tipp falling to Wexford.

The next two years would be the highlight of his playing career and he’d score a late goal in the 1962 final to help Tipp secure their back-to-back Liam McCarthy Cup success.
