Kerry GAA chairman Tim Murphy has led the tributes to 14-year-old Aodhán O'Connor who has tragically died as a result of a head injury sustained in a gaelic football match.

Aodhán sustained the injury following an accidental collision when representing Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne in a schools game last Wednesday.

The Dingle GAA underage player was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit of Cork University Hospital but lost his battle on Saturday night.

"On behalf of Kerry GAA, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the family, club mates, friends and teachers of the late Aodhán Ó Conchubhair," Tim Murphy said in a statement. 

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of this talented young man. Words cannot express adequately the emotions felt by the Kerry GAA community on hearing this tragic news. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. 

"May Aodhán rest in peace.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam".
