Ronan Kirrane is the new Mayo GAA secretary.

Davitts' Ronan Kirrane was elected as the new Mayo GAA secretary at a low-key county convention yesterday.

The outgoing assistant secretary defeated planning and training officer Mary Prenty in a vote. The Ballyhaunis woman is the wife of Connacht GAA secretary John Prenty.

The other contests saw Paddy McNicholas from Kiltimagh retain his Central Council seat at the expense of outgoing secretary Dermot Butler from Crossmolina, while former chairman Liam Moffatt, also Crossmolina, was elected Connacht Council delegate along with the sitting Paul Cunnane from Davitts.

Meanwhile, chairman Seamus Tuohy said in his address that the board is working to address concerns about the newly-laid pitch at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park. Mayo were forced to play their 'home' games in last year's National Football League at neutral venues while resurfacing works were carried out to the pitch at the Castlebar venue.
