All Ireland Medal Holders Rip - 3 Like(s)
In recent weeks two South Louth men who won All Ireland medals sadly passed away.
Alfie Monks ,Naomh Mhuire ,who was in the glorious '57 panel that won Sam died two ago while Ted Russell, Glen Emmets , who was in the panel that won the Junior All Ireland In 1961 died at the week-end. May they rest in peace. Both men played in the early rounds of the respective championships. A great time in Louth football.
Condolences and thanks to both families.

Replying To ForeverBlue2: "If Louth have no ground fit to host county games then they should forfeit home advantage until they get their house in order…. Ridiculous in this day and age …" Maybe if you didn't win an All-Ireland for over 70 years that forfeit should apply too..

In the past week we lost another great former Louth player when Gussie Sheelan RIP passed away. The Pats man captained Louth juniors when we won our last full All Ireland in 1961. He was a talented attacking half back who gave great service to both club and county. Condolences to his family.

Replying To LaLu: "I see that 86 people turned up a home league game for the county that tonight's referee was from. Not much more to be said about football knowledge there. I had more at my child's birthday party..." Pity he didn't go and make it 87

I hope there will be fun in Monasterboice to-morrow with a new name on Joe. There will be the biggest crowd since the Pope was there in 1979. Jocks for Joe.

Very disappointing game to-day. Cannot see the point of Gaels having no forwards in position in the first half and allowing Blues to tip tap the ball across their backs to the frustration of the paying spectators. In the first half after a Gaels kick out they kept the ball for a dozen passes - some very dodgy ones - and were still only 30 Yards from their own goals. This style will not win games or bring back supporters.
The Blues had it easy but as said already when tested a few times they looked weak enough. With a little luck Gaels could have had three goals. Good luck to Blues in Leinster. If they get a run they might need Lynch.

The League Is The Problem Not The Championship - 1 Like(s)
Replying To tirawleybaron: "The league is the problem
Since the advent of the current structure, Div 1 league finals (and div 1 football) are the preserve of a select few (Kerry, Mayo, Dublin, Derry, Tyrone, Cork - now replaced by Galway). This was far from the case previously (as outlined in another post I did).
top and bottom 16 will have mismatches - but you do need a structure which allows teams climb a ladder.
12, 12 and 8 does that job.
Div 1A -Mayo, Donegal, Dublin, Roscommon, Tyrone, Cavan
Div 1B - Kerry, Galway, Armagh, Monaghan, Derry, Meath
Div 2A - Cork, Offaly, Down, Fermanagh, Sligo, Limerick
Div 2B - Louth, Kildare, Westmeath, Clare, Laois, Wexford
Div 3 - Leitrim, Antrim, Wicklow, Carlow, Tipperary, Longford, London, Waterford
Div 1 - top 2 of each division into league semi (home draw for table toppers) - semi winners with best record nominates final venue
- 6th team in each division relegated
4 and 5th teams play off - loser of both matches relegated as 3rd team leaving div 1
Div 2
top 2 into a league final - team with best record nominates final venue
3rd place teams play off for last promotion place
6th place team relegated
4th and 5th place teams play off for last relegation place
Div 4
Top 2 teams into league final - team that tops the league gets to nominate the venue
3rd and 4th play off for last promotion place." The league finals are the problem. Let the top County in each division get the cups and medals with everyone having a break before the championship. Nobody then has to pretend to lose or miss penalties. Padraic Carney would not have had to fly ftom NY to beat Carlow.

Replying To Ollie2: "The Rats are struggling big time. They only survived inter championship football last year when they relegated their lovely neighbours the Plunketts to Junior football. The Blues were nearly relegated from Division 1 in 2013 but yet won Joe Ward that year. The Blues should be OK. The Plunketts, Tones and Nicks are all doing alright. Drawda Abu!" Mattock and Geraldine's won their places in top 6 last night. It's Tuesdays and Fridays now for the last five rounds. Well done to fixture's Committee for getting the fixtures up on website shortly after the game's finished last night. Lots to play for in all divisions before championship commenced in late August.

The team out on Saturday last was the poorest of the three we played this year. In the first two games the backs played well as did midfield. The forwards were not great. On Saturday the forwards improved but scoring is still too low despite Sam's efforts.
Based on the three games this would be my team for Ennis :-
D. Byrne
D.Corcoran. B. Duffy. P.McKenny
L. Grey. C. Murphy. C. McKeever
C.Byrne. C, Earley
P.Matthews. S. Mulroy. L. Jackson
J.Hughes. C.Grimes. R. Burns
