Longford Slashers defeated Wolfe Tones in the Longford SHC final this evening

Longford Slashers hit four first-half goals to dethrone Wolfe Tones this evening and capture their first Longford senior hurling championship title since 2001.

It finished 4-11 to 1-14 at Pearse Park, where Reuben Murray netted the first goal seven minutes in to give the victors the upper hand.

A minute later Cian Kavanagh’s free hit the Wolfe Tones’ net and by the time Paul Leonard registered his major in the 22nd minute, the Slashers would be nine to the good.

Ian Campbell hit back with a goal for the trailers two minutes later but they couldn’t prevent another goal going in at their end before the break.

Ronan Sheehan’s strike saw Slashers lead by 4-6 to 1-7 at the half and just five points registered throughout a much tighter second-half would be more than enough to secure a first JJ Duignan Cup in 20 years for the club.
