Tipperary football boss David Power has been dealt a huge blow with the news that ace attacker Conor Sweeney is out for the rest of the inter-county season after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture.

The 2020 All-Star winner sustained the injury in the latter stages of his county’s Allianz League Division 3 defeat to Down in Thurles last Saturday.

Sweeney was substituted minutes after and it was confirmed last night that the Ballyporeen sharpshooter now requires surgery that will see him side-lined for six months.

The Tipp captain joins Conal Kennedy and Paudie Feehan on the Premier men’s injury list as they look to get back on the winning track against Cavan in Round 2 this Sunday (2pm).
