Lámh Dhearg GAA club has paid tribute to club stalwart Jimmy Diamond who has passed away.

The West Belfast club was left heartbroken by the passing of the long-time volunteer and former committee member over the weekend.

“It is with deep regret to inform you that popular club stalwart Jimmy Diamond passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness,” a Facebook post read.

“Jimmy is the father of members Raymond, Teresa and Paula, father-in-law to members Eamonn McGarry, Deirdre Diamond and Seamus Draine and grandfather of players Orla, Eimer, Niall and Conal McGarry, Ryan and Maeve Diamond and Roisin and Grace Draine.

“Jimmy was one of nature’s true gentlemen, a dedicated Gael. He was very pleasant and courteous. Jimmy would always have time for you and was always willing to help you. He was highly respected in the club and local community.

“Jimmy served on the committee for many years with distinction and was so committed to helping the club. Jimmy was a big and proud family man and derived great pride and satisfaction in watching his son-in-law Eamon and grandchildren play for the club.

“Jimmy will be sadly missed by his wife Kathleen, family and club members. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family circle at this difficult and sad time. May Jimmy rest in peace."
