A Galway-based politician believes playing the Leinster SHC final on a Saturday evening in Croke Park will put many Galway and Kilkenny supporters off travelling.

The provincial final has been fixed for 7pm on Saturday week, and will form the second part of a double-header with the Joe McDonagh Cup final between Antrim and Kerry, which has a 5pm throw-in.

Senator Ollie Crowe said in a Facebook post: "Disappointing to see the Leinster hurling final set for 7pm on a Saturday evening. Difficult for families from Galway/Kilkenny to attend as they won't be home until after midnight. Hotel/accommodation prices in Dublin on a Saturday night too expensive for many families to stay overnight.

"No doubt due to TV demands, but it will now result in a much smaller crowd that the teams deserve," he added.
