Pat Flanagan has brought the curtain down on his five-year reign as Padraig Pearses manager.

The Clara man led the South Roscommon club to unprecedented success, winning two county SFC titles in 2019 and 2021 as well as as a Connacht club crown earlier this year. The former Westmeath, Offaly and Sligo boss was recently in the running for the vacant Roscommon post, only to lose out to Kildare man Davy Burke.

“Padraig Pearses would like to say a huge thank you to Pat Flanagan and his management team of Aidan Fallon, Gerry Kelly and Niall Murray who have stepped down after five historic years,” the club said in a statement.

“Pat joined us in 2018 and oversaw a period of unprecedented success for the club, taking the senior football team to an All-Ireland semi-final, two Connacht final and three county final appearances. It has been a rollercoaster journey for the club with the extended Flanagan family becoming part and parcel of matches, celebrations and the wider club community.

“2019 saw the capture of a long-awaited first-ever senior football title. The year also included a memorable trip to London as part of a Connacht championship campaign that culminated in a Connacht final against Corofin. 2021 saw the delivery of a fantastic treble with the Fahy Cup, O’Rourke Cup and the McGettigan Connacht Club Senior Football Cup returning to the Padraig Pearses clubhouse.”
