The death has taken place of Jimmy O'Donnell in Galway City after a short illness.
A former Cavan GAA football star from 1960s, Jimmy O'Donnell first rose to prominence by playing in the 1956 All-Ireland minor football final with Leitrim.
Jimmy lined out at centre half forward on that historic day for the Connacht champions. Unfortunately favourites Dublin proved a little too strong.
A banker by trade, he won multiple Ulster Senior Football medals and played for Cavan at full forward in the 1964 Ulster final against the much vaunted Down team of the era. He also played against Cork in the 1967 All Ireland semi-final after winning another Ulster title.
He holds the distinction of playing at the old Wembley stadium for Cavan against the legendary Kerry team in 1963 in the Wembley tournament.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilis.
