Pat Flanagan has been appointed as the new St Mary’s, Granard senior football manager.
One of the most decorated managers in the midlands, Flanagan joins the Longford club – who won the last of their 11 county SFC titles in 1982 – from Westmeath outfit Caulry, who he managed for the past two seasons. He spent a year with Sarsfields in Kildare before that after five hugely successful seasons in charge of Roscommon’s Padraig Pearses.
After captaining Clara to their first Offaly SFC title in 30 years in 1991, Flanagan briefly managed his home club before winning his first silverware as a manager with Kilbeggan Shamrocks – a Westmeath IFC title – in 2000. He has since won two Offaly SFC titles with Clara (2003 and ’09), two Westmeath SFC titles with Tyrrellspass (2006 and ’07) and two Roscommon SFC titles with Padraig Pearses (2019 and 2021) as well as a Connacht club crown in 2022.
The much-travelled 64-year-old has also managed the Westmeath, Offaly and Sligo senior footballers in the past 15 years, and brought the former from Division 3 to Division 1 of the National League in 2012 and ’13.
Fellow Clara man and former Offaly footballer Joe Quinn will once again be part of Flanagan’s backroom team.
"The executive and players alike are looking forward to working with Pat and Joe for the 2026 sporting year,” Flanagan’s new club stated.
