Tipperary forward John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

The Killenaule clubman made his senior debut for Tipp in 2013 and helped his county to All-Ireland senior hurling championship triumphs in 2016 and 2019. He also won two Munster SHC titles in the famous blue and gold, a Railway Cup with Munster in 2016 as well as an All-Star award in 2014.

O’Dwyer also earned Munster minor and U21 titles with the Premier County, along with an All-Ireland U21 crown in 2010 and would go on captain Tipp in that grade two years later before graduating through to the senior ranks.

His 84 senior appearances between league and championship over the last decade saw him tallying 14-227 for his county.

O'Dwyer's last appearance in the blue and gold came against Waterford in the 2021 All-Ireland SHC quarter-finals, with a knee injury keeping the 31-year-old sidelined throughout all of last season.

This afternoon (Thursday) he announced his decision to retire through the county board, releasing the following short statement:

“I would like to thank all the management teams from Minor level up to Senior who helped me over the last 15 years. It was a great pleasure to represent my county and win some silverware along the way. Thanks to those close to me and to my club Killenaule, who without their support it wouldn’t have been possible, So long”.
