Tyrone's Ruairí Canavan has been named the U20 Gaelic footballer of the Year
The title of EirGrid U20 Player of the Year has been given to Tyrone’s Ruairí Canavan after he propelled Tyrone to Ulster and All-Ireland glory with a series of superb performances.
Ruairí, who was also named Ulster EirGrid GAA Football U20 Player of the year, was the standout talent in this year's EirGrid All-Ireland Under-20 Football Championship and is the deserving winner of the award.
The Tyrone talisman produced stellar performances throughout Tyrone’s Championship, as the Red Hand County overcame strong opposition, defeating Down, Donegal, Cavan, Kerry and Kildare on the way to Ulster and All-Ireland titles. Canavan hit 1-4 from play in the EirGrid U20 All-Ireland Final as part of a 1-7 haul, after firing eight points against Kerry in the semi-final. He amassed an astonishing 1-34 (37) across five games, averaging just under 7.5 points per game as Tyrone claimed their sixth All-Ireland at this level.

The Player of the Year initiative has been running since the inception of the sponsorship and is carefully selected by the Gaelic Writers Association.
