Athy boss Walsh says final victory is "everything for the club"

Athy manager Vinnie Walsh said yesterday’s Kildare SFC final victory against Moorefield meant “everything for the club”.
Athy fell behind after controlling the game for 40 minutes in Newbridge and saw substitute Danny O’Keeffe firing in what proved to be the winning goal in the 54th minute, as it finished 1-11 to 0-12.
The triumph marked Athy’s first senior championship success in nine years, having lost at the same stage to the same opposition in 2018.
“It is everything for the club,” Walsh said after the final whistle at St Conleth’s Park.
“These boys won the title in 2011 when they were young lads, and everyone thought titles would come but they don’t come easy.
“We said at the start of this year it was a new decade and we would forget about what happened during the last decade.”
