O'Donnell calls it a day

Long-serving Galway football star Gary O'Donnell has announced his inter-county retirement.
The Tuam Stars clubman enjoyed a 13-year senior career with the Tribsemen, during which he won three Connacht SFC medals and a National League Division 2 title in 2017. The 33-year-old half back captained Galway to one of those Connacht SFC title wins in 2016.
O'Donnell grew up in the hurling heartland of Gort in South Galway, but was inspired to play football by his uncle and Galway great Ja Fallon. O'Donnell played under no fewer than six different Galway managers during his long career, namely Liam Sammon, Tomas O Flatharta, Joe Kernan, Alan Mulholland, Kevin Walsh and current boss Padraic Joyce.
He said in a social media post: "Time has come to call it a day with Galway GAA. Lived it and loved it all. So many to thank but I will get to you all in time. Life goes on. Gaillimh go deo."
