Moycullen kept up their impressive form by seeing off Monivea Abbey on a 6-20 to 0-19 scoreline in Tuam yesterday evening to book their place in the last eight of the Galway senior football championship.

In a game which saw their county defender Sean Kelly returning from injury, the reigning champions made a strong start to get out to a 1-7 to 0-3 lead, with Niall Walsh netting their first goal of the evening.

Charlie Cox fired in their second as they went on to hold a 2-12 to 0-8 lead at the break and there’d be more majors to come after the change of ends from Cathal Clancy’s men.

The returning Kelly, Walsh, who added to his 1-6 in the first-half, Sean O’Connor and Johnny Moloney all raised green flags as the holders cruised to a 19-point win to progress directly through to the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere in the race for the Frank Fox Cup, Corofin were emphatic in a 3-20 to 1-5 win over Killannin, Dunmore MacHales defeated Naomh Anna Leitir Mor by 4-12 to 3-10 and Claregalway saw off Mountbellew Moylough (3-14 to 0-13).

The results mean that Corofin finish top in Group 1, with Claregalway in second and Mountbellew Moylough finishing third.
