Replying To JonSmith:  "Excellent post Hardtimes. Anyone who thinks that there's lads playing club football in Cavan who haven't been tried at county level that would be able to come in and compete with Division 1 teams is fooling themselves. The personnel will be roughly the same, our hope is that a new manager will get more out of them.

Out of the names mentioned so far, Anthony Cunningham seems by far the best option ."
I made that point on another thread and no poster on here could name ONE man who hadn't been involved with the panel who they thought would improve it.

McCutcheon obviously is putting his hand up for re-selection, maybe one or two more, but to compete consistently with the top teams, we need to either discover a quality scoring forward or convert a current player into out main score-getter ala McManus in Monaghan.

We don't have that consistent scoring forward, and I don't think we have a player capable of being converted into one. Would love to be wrong but that's the reality.

Maybe the next manager will play the forwards as forwards.. Not backs

What are you talking about Seanorinn. Read what I posted. A new manager will bring a change, a new voice to the dressing room, maybe a bit of reinvigoration to certain players. A different approach, tactics, preference for a certain type of player. But he will start with the same large panel of players we have always had more or less. It's then down to them to show for him and from that showing he will whittle it down to a league squad, a Championship 26 and starting 15. He will have to make his own calls in that process and his Championship 15 may be a bit different to this years but if you're implying that he somehow needs to pick a whole new squad of players because the best players are outside of what's already there, then you're off you rocker.

Agree Cavanman47. McCutcheon is a terrific player but he has always been part of the initial group up for selection. Whether he commits or is given a fair run is another debate but he has never slipped through the net because of an oversight when initially forming the panel.

The draw has been made and I think from a Cavan perspective, a tough division has been made even tougher with us getting the most beatable opposition away from home.

Some tasty fixtures all the same and I can't wait to travel to Castlebar in particular to topple the All-Ireland champions the day after Ireland claim the grand slam having beaten England in the Aviva!! ;)"
We need to get a manager first... Going to Castlebar to topple the all Ireland champions?? Dream on . That Mayo team won't win the all Ireland. Not a snowballs chance."
sarcasm lost on you pal. ."]he could say the same about you.

I thought it was funny that he didn;t dispute the prediction that we would beat Mayo in castlebar but he did dispute that they would be all-ireland champions. Anyway can't wait to get a crack at the real all-ireland champs in our first game in Breffini. such a pity that the man who made it happen (terry Hyland) is not able to lead his team out for the occasion.

But its too early to predict because we play our championship team during the league like we did this year. Other teams don't. So we show our full hand in Feburary.

Tyrone, who won league and championship, made 4.

You are really starting to look stupid with your constant ill-informed posts.

I'm not for a second going to run down any player on a forum like this.

I think Tierney is a very good player, but I don't think he'll ever be our go-to man at intercounty level.

Again, I would love to be proven wrong.

Well of the team that beat Meath in the league in Feb only Jason MC Loughlin didn't start in the championship because he was injured

Tierney from Lavey and Daly from Castlerahen have caught the eye so far but it's early days yet. They have enough on their plates for now with their clubs still involved in the Championship.

Neither did Ciaran Brady, wrong again.

Starting to wonder why I'm even arguing with you - you can't even bother to get your facts right before making an argument.

Nope, that's Kevin Tierney.

Shane Tierney is from Lavey.

Anthony Cunningham, Enda McEntee, the Scotstown manager seem to be main candidates. Also heard of some Cooney fella involved with Donegal from Westmeath. The calibre of candidate seems good. As long as someone who is tactically aware and gets the extra marginal gains from the players.

I think that's crucial. .

We don't seem to get those marginal gains. The extra point in stoppage time against Tyrone in an Ulster semi final for example. Once we leveled, they made 2 scoring opportunities for themselves - we made none. Can't remember the last time we came out the right side of a championship game decided by such small margins. Apart from that, we are on a par with anything in Ulster.
