Total revamp of the club scene needed

The reality is we're in a crisis with the state and standard of club football in our county. It's diabolical. Plain and simple. Have a look at my opening post on this thread and read the statistics. In 16 Ulster matches our intermediate and senior champions have won a grand total of two.

I understand things will never change, but it is beyond ridiculous that we ever allowed a situation like this to develop in our county, where we have per capita, the third most amount of clubs of any county in Ireland. The blame lies with the administration of GAA in Cavan over the years.

May I ask what your club is Ned and whether you'd be ok with joining with your nearest neighbours and forming a new club called Saint Somethingorother?

Arva were in Division 1 a this year, and competed well. There is too many clubs in senior championship ,but that argument makes no difference since Arva beat a few senior clubs in the league.

Ned, Cavan's population was much larger when the clubs would have been developing. Cavan were Ulster Kingpins and all was well. The population slowly diminished over the years leaving us with a large number of clubs for our population.

I'm failing to see who is meant to take the blame here? What 'administration' failures caused this?

I can't see a time where we will have clubs merging within a parish even if it is the right way to think. I don't expect any Cavan team to be competitive in Ulster when we have the system as it is. But then, there is some sort of mental block there too. If we look back to when the Gaels had 7+ county players, they still didn't come close to winning an Ulster albeit they were as close as we have seen in many years. Personally, im not too bothered with the club Ulster thing as I would rather see players get a rest and regroup.

The main issue in Cavan and many other counties remains that a lot of club players are not getting games during the year and this is the main issue to be resolved.

If you're wondering today, why we can't beat a hurling county at home, or indeed, why we can't seem to win anything, then read my opening post on this thread.

The club scene is key. We don't produce good footballers in Cavan because the standard they're playing at week in week out is pure s****.

The future is not blue.

Club scene had nothing to do with throwing a 6 point half time Lead.

You're missing the point entirely.

I think we all know that amalgamating clubs will never fly. Personally I have another problem with amalgamations as they actually reduce the numbers playing our sport. I do though concede cavan having 60 odd clubs and a population of 70k or so is mental. I would propose that senior football championship is cut down to 12 teams. Only 6 or so clubs can enter on their own right, the rest must be amalgamated. However senior champ is not started until intermediate and junior is finished. The intermediate and junior champ should be knock out or as close to that as is possible. Senior best 6 clubs with 6 regional amalgamations enter round robin stage of championship. I know that's very top level and more detail needed but the basis is all clubs have their own championship before any amalgamation.

Replying To rahanman:  "If we fail to change then we can expect outcomes to be remain pretty much as they are. Hope is great . I hope to win Euromillions this weekend.

Our Club Competition structures have left Cavan SFC Teams in particular uncompetitive at Ulster level.

I fear that our County AGM will be dominated by our Financial circumstances and we will rumble on with the same tired system which has failed us continously.

We need to develop footballers who are not afraid to win."
Two years on, this post is still relevant.

I suspect in twenty years we could still say the same thing.

Cavan fans have nothing but hope.

Club football should go ahead regardless of where the county team are playing. More
County players get injured in county training, warmups than they do playing club football.
Yes the week before a county senior game there should be no club football . That's enough.
It would actually benefit the county scene to have county players playing club football as it keeps them sharp as is of more benefit than county training matches.
County players are too wrapped up in cotton wool these days .
We should be at the quarter final stages of the club championships by now.

The administration aren't throwing the jerseys on and kicking the balls wide. Poor managers are to blame.

No but they are tasked with producing the very footballers who kick the balls wide.

The games should be played regardless if cavan is still in championship or not, or even at the very least as soon as cavan is knocked out of Ulster it should be full steam ahead for there never going to do anything close to an all-Ireland, look at the club scene now over the weekend, how many county boys didn't play with there clubs too?? It's a joke to make teams play 2 games in 2 weeks and the championship straight after that, the league should be over by right and play out the championship and then that is the season over as lads needs a break instead of this carry on of playing the championship and then most teams having micky mouse games to play in the league after it and then clubs being given walkovers!!!!!
