Sorry for your troubles, Eddie. Simply a case of a team on the way down and a rebuilt team on the way up to greater things. Order has been restored.

Down losing by 28 pts was lucky alright.

You might be a bit quieter when its Cavan part deux after the draw.

It's like the Celt paper with a lot Monaghan content. Ye weren't buying your own paper so joined up with the celt.

Great result for the minors beating Armagh comprehensively in the capital of Bandit Country. Tough trip to Omaha this weekend to face a quality Tyrone team. Defending All-Ireland champions and fairly cruised through Ulster this year. We've had to take the longer road-maybe the momentum and match fitness in the legs will stand to us. Catch them a bit cold first half and see where it takes us. But will be tough.

Also, fair dues to the ladies on landing back-to-back Ulster Intermediate titles!

Now back to the thread topic-Cavan seniors. Just under two weeks to the Westmeath game, hard to feel optimistic. They're on some journey, from plummeting out of Div 2 last year to deserved Leinster champions. And looking at that final, they're everything we're not. Strong, physical, pacey, direct, great spread of scorers, able to break tackles. Then we've got a tonne of injuries according to the We Are Cavan podcast. Gearoid being the biggest potential loss, as he's the only man who's consistently won high ball this year. We might have to hope Westmeath are still on the beer celebrating for the next few weeks!

Hindsight 20/20 and all but can't help having this nagging feeling we hired the wrong part of the Westmeath management ticket from 2025! Real sliding doors moment.

Our manager has definitely had a major impact on the two counties facing up in Mullingar. One improving beyond recognition after he left and the other digressing as soon as he joined. Not really looking forward to this game.

Why did the GAA not send a thousand or 2 tickets to the Cavan and Westmeath County Boards to distribute among their clubs. There are now club members who work for their clubs and never miss a game left without tickets while the band wagon people get the tickets.

Well it's been over 5 weeks since the shambles in Clones but it's hard to be optimistic about our chances going forward. We have always produced good players in Cavan but finding good managers seems to be a problem at all levels.

In fairness you can't say that about the minors. They looked well set up and had all the hard work done against a very good Tyrone team. But a few lads got a bit excited when they looked at the score board which was a pity

Simply not good enough, lost the game in the first half. Very disappointing O Reilly, Tynan, Donnelly didn't step up,

No idea how Donoghue stay on the field for that length of time, it's puzzling after looking at him against Monaghan and his poor league a player has ability but has been giving too may chances, don't perform at that level.

Shehu went out of the game in second half and mngt too slow to make changes

Cavan still manage to find a way to lose

Donnelly done ok but not fully match fit after a long lay off. O Reilly was dropping vert deep.Shehu got 2 very good scores and unlucky with another attempt. He has a good direct style. Some of his passing was poor though. Tiernan Madden had a good game and has improved from the end of the league . He was in and out of the panel under Ray Galligan after showing good club form
Lovett was a handful when he came on and Casey got two 2 pointers. He wasn;t afraid to have a go . The goal came from it and 2 other shots went wide. He should have been on the panel before now but maybe hadn't the interest.

Wind was a factor in the game and Cavan ran out of steam in the second half of extra time. Westmeath full of running,

If anything Monaghan were more experimental than Mayo. Then from earlier posts, I would doubt if you are up to scratch on GAA matters. All said we are all hoping for the one handy draw to be got in Round 2B. That would be against our noisy neighbours in any venue.

Right, Dublin in Breffni it is. They're a shadow of the all-conquering team from a few years ago but will surely still have too much for us and put us out of our misery. They'll also probably have good support from all the Jackeens that have migrated to Cavan in recent years. Every time I'm back home in Cavan town it's full of people in Dublin kit!

While there are some positives to take from the Lake County Clásico v Westmeath, they were deserved winners in the end. We fought hard to get back into it and did so well in the first half of extra time before getting steamrolled at the end of the game. A lack of confidence from winning only two games all season?

There was some good heart and character on display. Sheu is getting better every game, Paddy Lynch was sharper, Meade full of running. Conor Casey-what an impact with some lovely scores. That's one thing with a rookie, opposition haven't lots of analysis and tape on them so maybe give them more space to do damage. Let's hope he gets a start v the Dubs and go for it. They're also at a low point so maybe we could catch them, but unlikely!

Will some of the injured players be back? Jason McLaughlin, Oisin Brady, Gearoid McKiernan. Brady had been Cavans best player this year. Dublin defence is very porous and Cavan have to aim to be competitive unlike previous meetings,.

Great to see the players show grit and spirit against a fancied westmeath. Disappointing not to see it out but I think the team should take confidence from the performance in second half to end of 1st half ET. Momentum is huge in the modern game and the westmeath crowd when they got going were like a 16th man.

Dublin will fancy themselves and probably be delighted to get us.
I can see us causing them some bother if we can
minimize easy turnovers, keep our scoreable free concession low and play with the energy we are capable off going forwards. Westmeath and louth have shown that dublin can be got at.I hope we all can get out to support and outnumber the dubs travelling party. Best of luck to all involved.
