If you are going to ignore what happened in that Division 3 campaign, then I can't help you. Covid rampant in the camp, long term injuries, and lockdowns in the South meaning we were 5 weeks behind Derry and Fermanagh with no combined training or challenge games. And then it being a truncated League with win or bust on 3 games, split by geography. And even with that, it took a 75th minute Fermanagh point v Longford for us to miss out on the promotion playoffs. Lets not pretend there wasn't huge challenges in 2021 that many sides would struggle to deal with. It was massively embarrassing the way we went down, but everything went wrong that year for these reasons. As you can see from this year, when things are even close to normality, we are much better than most teams in these 2 divisions. Are you even a Cavan supporter or just a hater wanting everything to always be as bad as it is in your mind?

Like, what exactly is your point there? Why the need to bring this up again when we've exhausted this many times before? Are you just obsessed with when we're bad, even after the good season we've had so far this year? Always at insults, or niggling at people, for no good reason. On a week leading into a final as well. Something must be seriously wrong with you... Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 05/07/2022 15:20:03 2429911 Link 1 |
I dont like watching it but unless we set up fairly defensively i feel we will leak a few early goals and match could be over before it starts after the performance against sligo i feel they will target the centre of our defense which was very open and they seem much better than sligo or us at taking goal chances. We need a performance similar to the one against Donegal to win this and avoid letting in soft goals. It will be very close and we have a brutal record in finals in croke park before this years league final even when we start well ie scored 3 goals early against Roscommon and still lost. I hope we will get over the line but i dont know how anyone can be over confident giving our past recent record in croker. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 479 - 05/07/2022 16:31:36 2429931 Link 0 |
Westmeath are the best team we will face this year ( bar Donegal in the championship) Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 05/07/2022 16:47:11 2429938 Link 0 |
Westmeath have more than Heslin to bother our backline. Loughlin, O'Toole, McCartan are serious players also.....they have Egan and Martin in reserve if its down to the wire........midfield of Connellan and Lynam (possibly Drumm) are a match for any team.......at the back Maguire, Wallace and Dolan like to get forward a lot and that gives concern as to who will track back.......Smith and Gonoud are man markers and we know who they will pick up.......this could be a very tight game....hopefully we'll be on the right side of the result....but if anyone thinks that Westmeath are a walkover have only seen them play against Dublin in the championship on TV......if they get a run at Cavan then we could be in trouble.....Cavan Abu

Nothing wrong with me but there must be something seriously wrong with anyone who thinks we are going to win this final easily…. We have shown nothing this season to suggest that.. Arrogance got us to our most embarrassing position in our history… Funny how you mention covid as an excuse for getting relegated but it had no effect on any team whatsoever when we won Ulster… even though the Final was played in the depths of winter on a ground that would never be allowed be used in normal circumstances… I think in both circumstances it's the same for both teams so getting relegated just proves we weren't up to much to begin with…. Hopefully we win on Saturday but getting promotion to division 2 next year will be just as important… If we win the Taltainn but fail to get out of Division 3 we will only end up been cannon fodder for whoever is in our All Ireland group next year in any case…. We must be competing regularly in Division 2 to have any hope… Graham will have wasted years flirting around in Div 3/4 which is no good for any team yet the deluded thinks he is some sort of a wonder manager…hardly

Just let it go mate. we don't have to dwell on the bad days. We've a final on Saturday, we're out of Division 4, on our way back, and all you can do is look back, insult, and niggle and needle on people. Why does everything just have to be so negative. None of us went there this week. I asked a few days ago what we were thinking for the week ahead after things were quiet for a week or so, and yet you just couldn't help bringing things down within a day. And look at this rant you just went on. Maybe think before you type and press send

But you quoted these people which makes you as bad…. There will be nothing easy about this game mark my words.. It's going to take a huge effort from everyone on what is going to be an energy sapping day if the forecast is correct…

Nothing negative about it…. just been realistic which is something you fail to face.. you rather live in a fantasy world… Talk of leaving this competition behind is fanciful as it's a competition designed for division 3/4 teams which is thanks to Mickey Graham exactly what we are…. Getting promoted to division 2 next year would be more important but as it's our next game and a Final it would be great to win it…. A win here won't elevate Mickey Graham to any great heights as a manager as our results this year would be gained if they had no manager…. He still has a lot of repair work to do….

If we win this competition, we do leave it behind. That is literally the point of it: Win it, you're not in it next year. League obsessed pal. All you're concentrating on there is League results while missing everything else. Man alive... Do you even like coming on here? Like why would it bother if everything is so bad in your eyes? Would you not just not bother if everything is so bad and we all wind you up? And can we not just get back to discussing the game, and not this constant going back and sledging. Please, let's look forward Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2450 - 06/07/2022 11:14:50 2430036 Link 0 |

If Mickey the mighty had concentrated a bit more on the league then we wouldn't be in this position but his failure to do so landed us in an embarrassing position but maybe it's our true level…only next season can answer that… As for now let's see how we get on Saturday… It will be a real test but one we can pass if management do their jobs correctly

Think you're very right in what you're saying. Graham has taken Cavan from Division 1 to Division 4 in 3 years and that's the only reason they're the position they are on Saturday/ Sunday and playing in a glorified All Ireland B championship final and rebranded Tommy Murphy Cup final... Lack of attention to detail during multiple league campaigns by management meant Cavan were behind the 8 ball before the Ulster championship even started. Is that realistically something to be proud of as Cavan people? brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 06/07/2022 12:59:17 2430076 Link 0 |
No, certainly not. Nonetheless, we are where we are, and the reason we are in this final is because we are not good enough to compete for the Sam, which is embarrassing for a supposed football mad county. However, a final is a final, and winning it will go some way towards redemption in my view, so I'm hoping for a good performance and result. By the way, does anyone think it would be a good idea for the Tailteann cup winners to play the Sam Maguire winners perhaps a few weeks after the AI final to give the Tailteann cup winners a chance to lay claim to being among Ireland's best? Kind of like how the Champions league winners play the Europa league winners? Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 06/07/2022 13:39:44 2430087 Link 0 |

We are where we are through our own fault. We have a chance Saturday to gauge ourselves against Westmeath who will be up there for promotion hopefully along with ourselves next year from Div 3. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 06/07/2022 14:31:53 2430101 Link 0 |
alot of negative deluded posters on here the only two competitions that Cavan have any chance of winning are The Tailteann cup and an out side chance each year of winning the Anglo Celt cup. We have no chance of winning the sam maguire cup same as 29 other counties in ireland and there is no shame in that. Why cant ye just enjoy it and dont be turning up your noses at what is the second most important championship competition in the country at the moment and only one that Cavan and 29 other counties have any chance of winning. Even if we get promoted to division 2 next year and division 1 the following year this wont change what chance has any team other than kerry of dublin of winning the sam maguire this year and it will be the same for the next two year with one or two other teams with an outside chance ie mayo and tyrone. These new competitions should be celebrated and supported its the level we are at and have been at for the past 50 years. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 479 - 06/07/2022 14:37:57 2430104 Link 0 |
