As a 6 yearold l listened to the '47 Allireland final from the Polo grounds and the memory lives on and does my heart good down through the years. l have such respect for every man over all those years who wore the blue of Cavan and l have nothing but contempt for those who would belittle the current Ulster Champions as somehow a fluke. It was no fluke. Flukes are one off things you don't fluke 4 wins in a row. My heart swells with pride everytime l play those games on youtube. As an eighty yearold l have so many happy memories of Cavan performances both in victory and defeat over the years because l always knew there would be good days like Ulster 2020. Well said Declan. Last year's triumph was incredible. Its very very rare to win Ulster from the preliminary but to do that 4 weeks in a row is insane. Its shocking to see some of our own fans (using this word very losely) belittling this achievement. Now things haven't gone to plan so far and we have the toughest draw possible but I say Mickey Graham has worked miracles before and who better to have in charge to get us in peak condition for Tyrone in Omagh. And if we lose that still won't turn me against my team. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1485 - 31/05/2021 16:12:33 2347061 Link 0 |
Nobody in their right mind would belittle our Ulster title win last season ... certainly not me.. Mickey Graham certainly has the Midas touch when it comes to the Championship but his league record is deplorable... I only hope playing an a low league level for 2 years won't set this group of players back.... That is the concern I would have and any real Cavan supporter would have similar worries...

when you watch the Donegal v Armagh and the Tyrone v Monaghan games you can see that it is literally at another level so that is a problem. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 31/05/2021 19:35:32 2347147 Link 0 |
Exactly... S goldrick there is a huge gap in quality between division 1 and what's been played in division 3....but some here thinks it should make no difference..! I fear it will

It will make no difference if Mickey has a full deck to choose from. Declankillann. declankillann (Dublin) - Posts: 83 - 31/05/2021 23:08:49 2347244 Link 1 |
Ulster win was a shock - and very impressive too. What worries me most is the selection of lads that are not inter-county standard - repeated selection. Does this tell, we don't have the players - especially so when we are missing a few. Jimjo (Cavan) - Posts: 65 - 01/06/2021 10:09:14 2347295 Link 0 |
I hope you are right Declan..... we will find out in a couple of weeks I guess

I was disappointed last year when Ross relegated us. I cheered up very quickly when we beat Monaghan a week later. ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 461 - 01/06/2021 17:57:49 2347476 Link 0 |
After a defeat to Wicklow I would not fancy our chances with Tyrone.... but I can't see us having much trouble with Wicklow to be honest

Frustrating game on Saturday, compounded by the fact that Longford conceded a late equaliser. The game reminded me of Roscommon last year except not nearly as bad as that day. 97Cavans (Cavan) - Posts: 377 - 01/06/2021 20:53:48 2347522 Link 0 |
Mickey needs to just get rid of all players that lack pace. That'll go a long way to solving our problems. LackenQuality79 (Cavan) - Posts: 28 - 02/06/2021 00:08:21 2347575 Link 0 |
I wouldn't say the following players have blistering pace: Faulkner T Galligan McKiernan Gunner Madden O Kiernan Would you get rid of them? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 02/06/2021 10:52:23 2347622 Link 1 |
Maybe we should have a race and the top 30 speedsters should be brought into the county panel and kick all the slow players out? I supposed if some of the new 30 cant even solo a ball it wouldnt matter

Of the 6 players you mentioned only Kieran could be classed as having played anywhere near the standard required even for division 3... Faulkner got a roasting, McKiernan apart from the goal wasn't much in it and Madden didn't touch the ball until after half time... Thomas Galigan is only coming back from an injury and will need time so can be excused... We have a big chance to put things right ( well half right ) against Wicklow and get some confidence back in our play before the Tyrone game... James Smith should be back which will be a boost

When did Faulkner get a roasting, was it when at least four Derry forwards were bearing down on the Cavan goal? If Cavan are to beat Tyrone we need a fully fit repeat of last year's half back line especially with Kieran Brady repeating last years form. Please lay off GMAC who are you suggesting would do better than him? The Wicklow game is irrelevant we will learn nothing from it. Without A fully fit James Smith and Thomas Galligan against Tyrone our dreams are in tatters for 2021. Come on lads stop whinging lets be proud of those prepared to don the blue jersey let them know that come what may we are four square behind them.

I'll not waste too much energy arguing this as 5 off the 6 listed are powerful athletes.

I'm not sure where the arguments come from in the first place. The squad was good enough to win ulster 7 months ago and there are lads on here claiming some of the key players in that campaign aren't good enough. It's ludicrous stuff. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 03/06/2021 22:42:13 2348123 Link 2 |
