Disagree that the team finishing top should win it. There should always be a league final.. As a player you want to play in finals and finals you've played in are the games you'll remember. In GAA from U13 up there's finals for League & Championship and they are great occasions for clubs.

Depends, have Castlerahan been busy as usual in the transfer market this season? Any more big money signings?

yes but a league which is played over a season where every team gets to play every other team should not be decided on a one-off game or even less so in a semi-final and final scenario. The team that finishes top should be awarded the trophy.

Don't agree. If that was the case you would have a load of dead rubber league games with nothing to play for from probably 3rd - 8th in the table which would skew relegation battles and probably lead to poorer quality games.

Championship starts tonight, with senior, intermediate and junior action this weekend, anyone fancy giving their predictions? IamADragon (Cavan) - Posts: 306 - 26/07/2019 13:57:09 2216774 Link 0 |
Top getting the title has merit but would clubs be happy to play without their county players if there was no semi-final / final setup. The reality is that the league is only a buildup to the real competition which is the Championship .

Enough talk about the league, this is the championship forum. A couple of slightly surprising results in the intermediate already, drumgoon beating laragh and belturbet beating ballinagh tonight. its looking a very open championship with 5 or 6 teams that'll fancy their chances to win it. hopefully this thread keeps to discussing football, not the usual bitter contributors taking over. Pullhard1985 (USA) - Posts: 68 - 29/07/2019 09:20:08 2217981 Link 0 |
Big losses for the 3 big guns ballinagh , cuchulains and laragh. Goes to show championship is a different ball game when teams are in full swing and get players back. Big win for killeshandra too was at that game, not a bad team at all wouldn't fancy getting them. Very open championship a lot of teams on par. lad09 (Cavan) - Posts: 239 - 29/07/2019 10:03:26 2217999 Link 0 |
Intermediate champo looks wide open, any one of about 6 teams would fancy their chances. Pullhard1985 (USA) - Posts: 68 - 29/07/2019 12:54:19 2218147 Link 0 |
Intermediate looking like a real lottery. I would probably even go above 6 teams that could win it. There are more teams in it that could win it, than you could rule out that won't win it. Think Denn were missing a few players last week and should be improved with Keogan back who was scoring heavily in the league. I would think they should be fine to make the QF's unless they get a hammering off Killinkere and only get 2 narrow wins which is unlikely knowing the teams that are left. Killinkere will surely blow all of the Division 3 teams out of the water anyway. And I would say it's up to Denn and Knockbride to challenge them but it's hard to know how much of a gap there is between those 3 teams, going by the intermediate results and things that happened in last years c'ship, league form doesn't seem to count for as much anymore. Laragh, Balieborough and Ballinagh already under pressure after week 1 and the draw for week 2. PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 29/07/2019 15:24:16 2218257 Link 0 |
What is the predictions for this weekend's fixtures? With a few upsets last weekend the intermediate has been blown right open, will there be any upsets in the SFC this weekend? Clancy_Wigam (Cavan) - Posts: 7 - 31/07/2019 10:29:30 2219019 Link 0 |

My predictions for the weekend: PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 01/08/2019 11:04:09 2219355 Link 0 |
Out of interest Pat, what have you seen this year so far that makes you think Killygarry will beat Castlerahan?
IamADragon (Cavan) - Posts: 306 - 01/08/2019 14:15:50 2219444 Link 0 |
Just the 1 Castlerahan game which they won, and 0 Killygarry games. I am aware it is a bold prediction but I tried to go against myself on 3/4 occasions and predict a few shocks as I am sure there will be some in each group week. Killygarry are a good team on their day and tend to start c'ships well before fizzling out to teams with greater depth in their squads. I didn't say they would all be right! But a lot of them will... Killygarry for the win v Castlerahan is a bold prediction this weekend. The only chance Killygarry have is the fact that it is not a knockout game that said I would expect a Castlerahan win based on their recent league and championship performances rahanman (Cavan) - Posts: 127 - 01/08/2019 17:37:17 2219531 Link 0 |
Accumulator busted on first prediction. Great to see Connor Smith back last night. Played well too. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 03/08/2019 12:43:15 2220042 Link 0 |

Excellent predictions with the junior championship apart from the Corlough game. Surely some bias there? Steady Eddie Strikes again!!! Steady_Eddie (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 05/08/2019 17:12:02 2221227 Link 0 |
