How are preparations going for the Monaghan game. Have we played any challenge games ,are there any injury worries as Mickey has highlighted that some county players are been targeted in club matches? Virginia (Cavan) - Posts: 101 - 24/04/2019 08:57:06 2180020 Link 0 |
Normally at this time of year with the championship on the horizon they're would be lots of comments on this post. Seems like all the false dawns have taken their toll!!!! Virginia (Cavan) - Posts: 101 - 25/04/2019 10:21:44 2180178 Link 0 |
I can definitely sense that attitude in people in the last year or more. there seems to be a realisation that the huge promise years ago isn't going to materialise and its no harm either. Cavan supporters are far too obsessed with football and tend to idolise the players too much. for what it's worth i think Cavan can make the ulster final and god knows what'd happen then. theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 25/04/2019 14:04:34 2180214 Link 0 |
There was supposed to be a challenge game on Easter Monday vs Meath in Crosskeys, an official pitch opening for Denn GFC, but it was called off - due to a mumps outbreak in Crosskeys area apparently. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5193 - 25/04/2019 14:59:25 2180227 Link 0 |
The second half of your post contradicts the first. Not a year goes by but Cavan supporters think they can "make the Ulster final", but it never happens, and I strongly suspect this year will be no different. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 25/04/2019 16:28:28 2180240 Link 0 |
The mood tends to lead towards a two game scenario this year. Virginia (Cavan) - Posts: 101 - 25/04/2019 17:11:05 2180247 Link 0 |
Every chance Monaghan will beat us, it'll be a tight game in breffni in 3 weeks. . . .but I would put good money than no other 1st round qualifier will beat us if we do enter the qualifiers.

i don't think its contradictory. theres always supporters every year that think cavan can make an ulster final. theres been plenty of years where cavan were capable of making a final and didn't alternatively there was years that cavan had no chance of making an ulster final and they didn't!!! but there's a good possibility this year.

I'm afraid we just don't have the firepower to get near an Ulster Final at the moment. PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 30/04/2019 11:44:47 2181005 Link 0 |
Its been very quiet building up to the game from both camps. I'm very worried from a Monaghan perspective. I believe Cavan are building a quiet storm and I expect you to throw the kitchen sink at Monaghan. monaghanmad (Monaghan) - Posts: 397 - 30/04/2019 19:42:39 2181133 Link 0 |
I think Cavan will turn Monaghan over in Breffni this time, Graham has kept everything low key and has not had a full hand to choose from during the league and that just suits fine.Roll on the 18th. celt2018 (Cavan) - Posts: 160 - 30/04/2019 20:12:02 2181141 Link 1 |
How many finals have they played in in the last fifty years? Of course its a possibility that they can make the final, in the same way its possible for New York to win the all Ireland. What we need to do is speculate based on evidence, not on wishful thinking. The truth of the matter is that the league offered no proof that Cavan have improved sufficiently to overturn Monaghan. Nothing special. Right. What does that make Cavan?

So what is new this year apart from a manager? I just cannot see Cavan make an Ulster Final. I would love to see a resurgent Cavan, even though I love beating ye. But when ye are playing any other team, I always love to see Cavan winning.

Nothing Special = We are good 2nd tier in the All Ireland category. Teams that I would have in the 1st tier group would all be able to challenge the top teams on their even if they cant win an All Ireland. Which we cannot and will not IMO. I would be unsure which one Monaghan will fall into this c'ship. I would have Cavan would near the top of that 2nd tier IMO. With Roscommon definitely very similar standard to us, and perhaps now Donegal & Monaghan who may have come back to us or we may have caught up. Above the Meath's, Armagh's & Tipp's etc. Hopefully we can at the very least cement this existing position in the c'ship and beat the likes of the Meath's, Armagh's Tipp's and get to the last 12 or Super 8's if they are all that is put in front of us to get there. No shame in going out to Tyrone last year in theory really even though their were some terrible performances along the way to get that far. It's comical to suggest we're on the same level as Donegal. They wiped the floor with us in last year's championship without breaking a sweat. I'd also highlight the fact that we haven't beaten Monaghan recently. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 01/05/2019 12:03:20 2181246 Link 0 |
Maybe let's wait and see what level we at after the Monaghan game. New management some new players so making comparisons to previous years don't solve anything. Let's get behind the management and the panel . New era hopefully. We in Cavan are hell bent living in the past be in clapping ourselves on the back over our win in 1947 or moaning about the Ulster finals we lost or didn't reach. Why would we wait until after the game to see where we're at? We can make a fair assessment after the league. Small reminder that Monaghan beat us only a matter of weeks ago in said league. Perhaps we are hell bent on living in the past, but we're also hell bent on ignoring the problems with football in the county, and praying that we'll somehow work a miracle at county level. Last week a club suffered a 49 point defeat in the league. Last year a different club suffered a similar result in the championship. Elephant in the room. But let's ignore these things and hope for the best. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 01/05/2019 15:40:22 2181298 Link 0 |
