Methods To Improve The Cavan Team

Replying To The Quiet Man:  "Great statement sounds like you are jealous of their success but really they are just after getting promoted to Division1 and Cavan are relegated to Division 2 so accept Meath right now are better than Cavan. Also Meath have a far superior history than Cavan and they have every right to be planning for better things ahead and good luck to them. It would be nice if Cavan could talk about more recent Senior All Irelands and as it stands they will not be talking about any in the near future."
Meath are better than Cavan because they got promoted from division 2 and Cavan got relegated from division 1 is the biggest load of rubbish ive ever heard on here. Can someone tell this man that they are different divisions. Meath lost to Longford in the championship last year so what you make of that? Meath have the same team as last year and the reason for the promotion is the inclusion of Colm Nally on the coaching staff.

Replying To The Quiet Man:  "I fully understand but remember this Cavan show their hand year on year so what you saw so far this season is what you will see in the championship where as others will be fielding many changes in players come May. I think the predictions that Meath will fall right back down I fear you will regret those words for Meath are coming good and have been working on development and I expect they will over the next few years be back fighting for Sam."
We showed our hand?

We have played 30 players during the league!

So if we've shown our hand, go on - name the starting 15 that will take to the field for the Monaghan game. Or else just stop lying.

Were you at the match Sunday if yes you saw your panel. Mackey was not on the list but just add him Seannie and young Reilly and off course Brady you will have your list of players for Monaghan's game. I have been following Cavan a very long time and over the last ten years it was predictable naming the starting 15 you would be near spot on. As you would not be aware of any injuries or players dropping off from the panel. So look at your program for last Sunday and add the three you will be very close.

And how many will Meath (or any county) add to their panel who didn't feature in the league???

I would say even galway and Kerry, who lost players to the club final, will only be adding 2 or 3.

So please list me the teams who haven't 'shown their hand'

Ah Meath. They are never bet. They would never concede a 5 point less at half time in a final to lose by 2. I wish cavan were like Meath.

The first 12/13 of almost every county team are completely predictable every year come championship, barring injury. Cavan team v Monaghan for championship.
Ray Galligan,Jason Mcloughlin,Padraic Faulkner,Conor Moynagh,Gerry Smith, Ciaran Brady,Killian Clarke,Thomas Galligan,Niall Murray,Gearoid McKiernan,Martin Reilly,Dara McAveety,Caoimhin Reilly likely all 13 starters if fit.Then its to pick out of Conor Rehill,Conor Madden,Cian Mackey,Jack Brady,Stephen Murray,Oisin Kiernan, Chris Conroy,Paul Graham,Barry Fortune,Luke Fortune,James Galligan,James Smith,Pierce Smith,Stephen smith unless there's a surprise from the u20s.

I think once you declare for U20s you cannot play senior, I could be wrong but think that is the way it is now

I'm assuming by where he is on your list but that you agree with Conor Moynagh being in the back line.

Nothing personal, he is a good football and should be on the panel in the forward line or as in and around the middle section when the game is loose, but getting him out of the back line for man marking & stopper defenders would be one sure fire way to improve the team in my opinion.

I'm also assuming Caoimhin is not going to come back razor sharp either after such a long absence so I don't know how he can b in your definite 13 either.

Of your maybe's or choose from: I think Rehill has earned his start in the league. And if I was going to take a chance on young forward's I would go with Madden and Pierce Smith. Smith's wasn't wonderful in the league but I think he could step up in the c'ship. Plus Mackey obviously who is still key for us but his game time will have to be managed well.

There's a great opening in this team for a lad that can take frees. Obviously McKiernan back will help but if we had someone to stamp their mark here I think a manager would be willing to carry them within reason and give them time to develop the other parts of their game. Unfortunately some didn't fully grasp the nettle this league campaign and the pressure is not going to ease for Championship but the opportunity is still there if they can get that mental steel.

Hardtimes, Yes,surely at this stage it is worth carrying a top notch freetaker,go back over the league games and ask the question,If we had a freetaker of note and we cut out fouling by 50% how many matches would we have won, would we still be a division 1 team? The like of Ryan Connolly is excellent at frees ,might be worth letting him at it and he is also a good footballer who in time would gain the confidence from play. It took Ronan Carolan a fair while to majorly contribute from play but was worth 6/7 points a match. Sean O Shea not always a major scorer from play for Kerry but they are raving about his 7-10 points a match from dead ball.

Enda Reilly is fairly reliable at frees. Maybe hasn't the pace for Inter County

what nonsense. Carry a top notch free taker, Ryan Connolly etc. So what happens if Ryan Connolly is picked at wing half back for Cavan, Cavan play Dublin for example and hes marking Jack McCaffrey, youd be guaranteed that McCaffrey would get more scores from play that Connolly from free kicks.

I never read such nonsense play him at wing half back? Put him in full back line and he will destroy Dean Rock or Conor McManus or whoever the opposition line up against him.

Rehill would be in the top 5 of that team , he was one of the better players in the league .
