I have been told he is still training away keeping himself in shape which shows the determination he has. Lets all just pray that come March he will be back to full health and involved again. I don't think Johnston has been asked back in either. Fergal Reilly and Enda Flanagan still to return following injuries picked up during Ulster Club.

Can't believe the gunner not asked in he was our best defender last year.

i was amongst small group of hardcore cavan supporters there last night. Donegal had 8 or maybe 9 regulars on there starting team last night, having said that murphy, mc brearty, mc gee, mc niallas, mc glynn were all rested. what a list of lads resting. am i right in saying 3 of cavans forwards would be 18? cavan had i think 4 regulars starting amongst an overall very young team. so overall this was an encouraging display by cavan. these young lads will have got a taste last night of what it really takes and donegal showed that, their pace on and off the ball, their physicality in the tackle is light years ahead of cavan. also their overall conditioning is so much ahead of cavan. there's plenty of good players there but god knows the trough would need to be full constantly along with a gym routine to bulk up. then and only then do you have a chance.

It's only a pre season tournament so perfect time to try out new players and maybe Cavan have found 3 or 4 new players for the league out of it. The league should bring this Cavan team on playing top quality teams week in week out and can't be written off for Ulster this year. I think you lads a super manager in charge now and should be given plenty of time to get things going the way he wants.

As you mentioned Donegal had a few regulars rested/injured last night and you can add regulars from last years championship Paddy McGrath, Eoin Ban Gallagher, Ciaran Thompson, Leo McCloone and Stephen McMenamin to that list but I'm not sure how many of those player mentioned will actually feature in the league as there seems to be a mini injury crisis at the moment and there will be probably 3 or 4 other Gaoth Dobhair players along with McGee and MacNillias missing due to club commitments until after the Corofin game at least so a lot of last nights team will be playing in the first 2 or 3 league games.

Best of luck for 2019 and maybe our paths will cross later in the year at some point.

I hope you're right. micky seems to be going the right way about it and throwing lads in early to see how they manage. i fully expect those younger fellas to be with the u20's when the time comes too. i hadn't even thought of the players. there is unbelievable depth in donegal and really good footballers too. Donegal will take some beating and i honestly do think they're the biggest threat to dublin with their power and athleticism. best of luck. hopefully we'll see you in division 1 next year

A bit worrying that we only have those lads to come back to last nights panel minus Gunner & Oisin.

Not so much for 2/3 years down the line where we look like we could be building a good young team, most of whom are just too light to be effective this year against the big guns.

But for this year in Div 1, Mickey is going to have to work miracles to stop us get hammered by most of the teams in it, particularly if his philosophy is going to be to play attacking football at all costs.

G Mac , k Clarke, d mcveety, g smith, c reilly, are excellent players and will make a huge impact on the team when they are back in.

The likes of Michael Langán, Jason McGee,
Niall O Donnell starred on the Donegal u21 and U20 teams that hammered Cavan in the past couple of years. The conditioning of the Donegal players were on another level to Cavan at under age.

One of the Donegal lads was playing his 100th game I heard on Highland Radio. Probably more games than our entire starting 15 nearly put together!
The McKenna Cup is a fitness exercise. Have talked to some Donegal folk and they said they were impressed with Cavan's ability to get inside but we need the killer touch. That can come.
My understanding is that Killian has been asked in but was given an extended break due to his late finish to the season.
Division 1 will be a big step up but let's get behind the lads.
Mickey is making promising moves from the start.

My big observation was that we have some very good newcomers but one forgotten man came back and tallied up 4 points to show that we always had scoring forwards.

Both good players both called into the squad I'd prefer to see them play at U20 and develop more, they have loads of time to step up.
