Replying To Reformation:  "With Mayo and Tyrone already in the back door draw, I think that we need a bit of luck to avoid the likes of them if we have any aspirations of making some sort of move in this years championship. Offaly and Tipp wasn't so bad last year!

When it comes to the team selection topic, it seems that we just don't have the commitment there from some of the players mentioned in previous comments so we need to move on. I think that a glaring issue in the last couple of years has been the transition of minor and U21 players with promise into the senior set up. That can be down to the players but apart from Caomhin O'Reilly, we haven't really converted many with major potential. I had high hopes for Galligan but it seems he needs more time. We have a good nucleus of a team but we are lacking a bench with any quality. This is a problem as it is never mind the fact that Mattie starts emptying the bench after 15 minutes. I am very concerned about that and when this is clearly his tactic, it means that we will have at least 5 fringe players on the pitch for the end of a game. I would be more inclined to work it the other way around if he is insisting on this tactic."
I actually disagree regarding the qualifiers. I really hope we get Mayo. Going down to Waterford or playing London in the first round is only prolonging the torture till we meet a decent team. Getting as far as possible is kind of depressing to even think about. The best thing for this Cavan team is to get a big game, big crowd and heaven forbid if we actually win it might kickstart the whole lot for these young lads

every team gets beaten at least once apart from maybe the all-ireland winners. Cavan have already had a very tough game (unlike some counties in other provinces) so it would be no harm to have an easier one. Some counties E.G. Roscommon seem to almost get a bye in to the last 12 every year. If all we had to do to get to a provincial final was beat a Div 4 team we could plan our season accordingly.

We are competing at senior level. What are you on about ?

Folks, the one thing the team must aim for during the qualifiers is to take the scalp of a big name. The county as a whole badly needs that. Our record during the summer has been pretty poor with the exception of 2013. Mayo at home or away in front of the cameras would generate huge interest and a win would transform the current climate.

So what big name scalp do you think we could take? London?

Mayo as we don't have any baggage with them and they are probably on their last legs at this stage.

Mayo would eat us alive with the experience online that they have.
Could just imagine Aiden o Shea tearing through our centre. It would be like Christmas coming early for him . Look we would beat your Leitrim and Waterford and London , would struggle with Cork or Tipp or Meath or Longford. Wouldn't get a look in against Tyrone or Mayo .
We would be better off out of it in the next round. Regroup, put a proper management in place that would have an idea of what they would be at.
Get on with the club championship .
What's another year!

Tell us who is this great manager we are going to get. Same like the great manager we were going to get when Hyland left. I think you are deluded if you think we are going to a big name to come to Cavan. When you put forward a serious candidate that might be interested maybe someone will debate it with you.

No where to play a home game if we are drawn at home.

As I said before every manager deserves a chance. Hyland has 5 years won 2 Ulster championship games got us to div 1.
Mattie had 2 years won no Ulster championship games and also go us to div 1. Maybe he will get a run in the qualifiers but it don't seem promising going by the Donegal game.
James McCartan for me is a big name Manager who got an average Down team to an All Ireland final and were unlucky .
He also won All Ireland's himself .
Our biggest problem is who's picked as selectors who knows the club scene.
I'm Hyland defence he didn't really have the help or expertise along the line.
Don't think Mattie has it either.
Someone like McCartan with for example Jason Reilly and the minor manager Brady as his selectors.
Both would learn from someone like McCartan and in a few years be able to step up to the hot seat themselves.

Sure with the crowds Cavan are bringing to matches so far you could play the game in Drumgoon.

You only have to look at the style of football that we been oplaying since 2011 to see the reason why there been no crowds.

It's amazing that we are back talking about new management again.
Yeah maybe Mayo would walk through us. Is that any better than Mayo walking through us after we beat London and Leitrim? If we can't beat a big team in May then we definetly won't beat them in August. Someone else above said maybe the players need a few easier games to get going, I do see the merits in that also. But as a fan I'd rather the big scalp than a dead rubber

Tyrone would be a good draw right now. they are looking weakened by injury and disagreements in the setup. this Cavan team needs a big challenge to rise to.

For the love and honour of God may we at least avoid a wrestle match with another Ulster team, if that comes out of the hat I'll eat the bloody hat and my own face as well before looking at the game.

Change the manager, the current occupant of the hot seat went down to Clare with a group which showed 13 changes back in late January and two months later his team had played 7, won 5, drew 1 and lost 1, and had accumulated 11 points and were promoted.

We are not as good as Donegal at present but with better luck with injuries leading into that game we might have been more competitive. The Roscommon game in Croke Park showed us where we stood and it is obvious that we need to find new talent in certain key areas if we are to progress. In my opinion that talent will have to be found from the younger generation.

I read the Celt last night and one of the articles referred to the possibility that we were on the brink of a breakthrough at the end of Terry Hyland's last year in charge. I don't buy into that. We were well beaten by Tyrone in the Ulster Semi Final Replay and only for the 3 goals we scored the first day we would have been well beaten that day as well. In both halves we went considerable periods of time without scoring and it was only the goals late in the first and second half that kept us alive.

I have absolutely no issue with guys who feel they cannot give the required dedication to the county. It's an amateur sport and individuals have numerous competing priorities. People on this site would be better served support the current manager and the guys who have committed for the year! There will be plenty of time to discuss the managerial position when the season is over.
