Don't know what impact Rory Gallagher had, as it wasn't in attack. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 08/10/2017 19:18:28 2053896 Link 0 |
Really disappointing game today. Gaels in control for majority of the time. Maybe if Mackey had scored the penalty Castlerahan might have pushed on but probably the Gaels would have won it anyway. Poor defensive tactics & far to much lateral passing. Johnston best player on the pitch which at 33 & his best days behind him must be extremely worrying for mcgleenan. bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 08/10/2017 21:57:48 2053949 Link 0 |

A dismal end to a dismal season all round. Except for 15 brilliant minutes by the minors against Galway it has been hard to take. Mattie McGleenans uphill task should be clear to all who witnessed the semis and final of the senior championship. The Gaels are going nowhere in Ulster either. Nice turn by the Cavan Gaels management & team to bring the Oliver Plunkett cup to the grave of a wonderful friend and a fantastic ambassador for his club and County. Well done to all involved for I am sure he is looking down with pride. Bring another cup to his graveside in a couple of months time lad's the Ulster Senior Club trophy that would surely make his day and bring joy to many a good Cavan supporter as well. Rest in Peace my friend. Sean O'Rinn B.A The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 09/10/2017 11:04:22 2054034 Link 0 |
Best team won yestetday. Peno might have changed things or even goal chance just before it but probably not. From a neutrals point of view ref lost control early and wasnt able to regain control. Actions and manners of MOTM were questionable throughout. At 33 he should know better. countdown (Cavan) - Posts: 14 - 09/10/2017 11:44:19 2054057 Link 0 |
No doubt at all that the best team on the day won the match. I am still proud of our team for all of their efforts over the years the easiest thing in to do is give up and they haven't . rahanman (Cavan) - Posts: 127 - 09/10/2017 12:10:21 2054072 Link 0 |
Savage poor game..Too much niggle and off the ball stuff with both linesmen and referee prepared to let it go.. The gaels were the best team and deserved to win. That said when Castlerahan pushed up 15 on 15 they were a match its just a pity they waited until the second half to do it. ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 544 - 09/10/2017 12:58:11 2054098 Link 0 |
At 33, hes still the best forward in the County - he did what any player would do, he was kicked, dragged and poked throughout the game, but still had the class to kick some fantastic points.

their efforts yesterday were pitiful, imagine coming into a County Final and playing 13 men behind the ball. Only one team came to play football and fully deserved the win.

Both Teams turned up yesterday to win and were prepared to do whatever it took to do so I have no gripe with that at all as that is how the game is. It is just a tad disingenuous trying to create a narrative that the Gaels were there to play football whereas Castlerahan in your opinion were there to do something else. I have never agreed with the defensive style of play that Castlerahan & Cavan & Ulster has so bought into and was not expecting any major change in the way we have played for the past six years. In terms of the niggle in the game it hinged on one early non-decision. The Yellow Card shown to Paul O'Connor early in the game. That set the tone for how the game would be officiated and both teams adopted accordingly. It would be great to see any/all of our Cavan Champions go on a run in Ulster here's hoping

Micky Graham doing a great job in Longford. A Future Cavan manager maybe, Longford County team would probably show interest too. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2824 - 09/10/2017 16:11:33 2054180 Link 0 |
No doubts about it. Seanie Johnstone should have got the line in the opening minutes. Swung two clear punches. Both red cards on their own. I believe even his colleague Damien Donouhue who he manages Killinkere with apparently said along with Mickey Brennan on the radio 'Seanie has to go for that.' PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts:19 - 09/10/2017 16:56:50 2054205 I know Martin Sexton could not referee this match but he is one of the top three in the county but he is ignored for Finals. Why I wonder. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 09/10/2017 17:20:00 2054215 Link 0 |
