I would be very disappointed if this were true. I recently saw laochra gael with sambo mcnaughton from Antrim on it and it put into perspective some of what Ulster gaels had to endure just to play the game. I'd have great time for anyone playing and promoting the games up in ulster.

Fantastic duel player, a great athlete. Remember watching him play, a commanding figure on the field. May he rest in peace.

Transfer System - 2 Like(s)
I'd agree that improved coaching in so called weaker counties is important and playing cross county games in kilkenny has definitely been a great help to carlow clubs. Imo the biggest problem for carlow is lack of clubs. For a small county we have large areas with no hurling. I noticed tullow aren't playing underage anymore which I can't understand given the size of the town. I think a transfer system would not solve much but somehow getting non traditional areas to embrace the game would be more beneficial although very difficult.

Joe Mcdonagh Cup 2022 - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Onion Breath:  "Tough on Carlow after getting the win they needed but margins are very tight in this competition. It's a fantastic competition it has to be said. It must be doing the counties good to play such ferociously competitive matches week after week in this. With Laois or Westmeath coming down and most likely Kildare coming up, or Kerry or Antrim staying in it it's a mouth watering competition for next year. Be nice if RTE could show a live game in it each week. The start times on Saturday afternoons would allow it. Good to give it more profile."
I'd agree fully with that. It's an excellent competition which doesn't get the recognition it deserves and maybe by showing at least a couple of games on TV it would help kids in our counties aspire to play the game.

Hurling In A Different County - 2 Like(s)

Replying To liam500:  "Interesting. I wonder is this just happening and the GAA are turning a blind eye to the rule as it's only kids? So in our case, I just ignore it and the kid continues as he is..."
Well I'm going to continue to bring him to hurling with the club until I'm told different. As I said it's a ridiculous situation that I can bring him to play rugby or any other sport and there's no issue, but bring him hurling and the gaa want to stop him! The organisation needs a dose of common sense at times.

I don't mind what odds Carlow are. Bookies don't win hurling matches, hurlers do. If Carlow turn up and perform as they can I believe they will win. Ceatharlach Abu!

Good post. I think kildare were ahead in the betting with only Down ranked lower than carlow going into the joe mcd. I believe we have a chance on Saturday if the lads play to their ability and like you said bring that intensity to the game. Its a very difficult task, Dublin were unlucky not to beat galway the last day out. Hopefully we can stun the hurling world. Them lads have done the carlow jersey proud. Hopefully there will be a massive carlow crowd at it to roar them on. Ceatharlach Abu!

Good win for the 20s yesterday. Crossed fingers the seniors can get over the line against laois today. Ceatharlach Abu!

Really enjoyable game yesterday, end to end stuff. Atmosphere at the game was great too with passionate support for both teams. As a neutral I'm delighted there's a replay! As regards the schedule, well the players were likely to know in advance. Delighted Burren Rangers got their win too, intermediate championship should be very interesting next year. There's definitely still plenty of quality in carlow club hurling. Hope the senior replay is a close one again.

Good weekend for carlow gaa. Footballers done what they had to on a bad night. Hurlers well deserved winners today. Really impressed with the performance especially lads like John doyle, lorcan doyle and paddy boland who had his best performance in a while in a carlow shirt. The usual suspects were on their game too. Could be a good year ahead.

Great to see 7 players represented from the county on the Joe McDonagh team of the year. Well done to all and the entire team.

Thanks sponger. We're up against it in both games but it's great to be there. Here's hoping for at least one positive result, either way both teams have done the jersey proud this summer. Ceatharlach Abu!

Replying To Onion Breath:  "Shane Clarke … major loss coming into a period of drying ground when his pace will be missed. Grange lads seem to be all gone too. Not surprised Darragh O'Brien is gone the way they messed him around last week. Tomorrow is all about the hurlers anyway. Huge swing game ahead. Hopefully they can finally nail Antrim who we owe big time (and none more so than Chris) and set themselves up for a real go at promotion which if it happened would be probably the greatest achievement of any Carlow inter county team since the leister senior football winning side. To be in the top seven in the country, in league anyway, would be remarkable for a county our size but it is very achievable."
Will be tough going tomorrow. I'm confident we'll win if we play to form but never easy against Antrim regardless how they've been going. Hopefully Carlow people will come out in numbers to support the lads.

Regarding the poor support, I've been going to Carlow matches for years from playing Clare and wexford to Derry or London. Attendances have always been poor. I hurled years ago with plenty of lads that still live local and have never seen any of them attend matches let alone bring their children. It's a shame as our hurlers have done us proud over the years and continue to do us proud with such a small group. Anyway I'll keep going regardless of opposition or whichever level we find ourselves.

Great weekend for carlow. They have done the county proud. I must admit I was sceptical of the footballers chances but glad to be proved wrong! Hurlers were excellent again yesterday regardless of the offaly team sent out. Well done to both teams. Ceatharlach Abu!

Donal og cusack and Jackie tyrell were right about the lack of tv coverage hurling is getting. The McDonagh Cup did manage about 2 minutes of coverage last night though which is an improvement. It's no way to try to promote the game, the gaa are responsible.

Delighted to get the win in Ballycran, always a difficult place to go. Massive game for Carlow next Saturday. I don't think offaly will be taking it lightly either so carlow will have to bring their A game. Kerry and Laois still very much in the reckoning. Should make for a great evening of hurling. Here's hoping for a carlow win.

Allow Christy Ring Cup Winner Enter The All-Ireland? - 1 Like(s)

Replying To oneoff:  "It took Offaly two attempts to win the Christy Ring so they weren't obviously too strong the first year. Kildare are only in recent years after getting back on track and obviously haven't been strong enough to stay in the McDonagh cup. Carlow had dropped back down to the Christy Ring in recent years and whst did they do? Regrouped win it and then won the McDonagh cup. In your system they should have just been left in the McDonagh cup."
Carlow never slipped down to the Christy Ring, it was was preceeded the McDonagh Cup. Carlow were the first winners of the McDonagh. I don't disagree with your point but just wanted to clarify that.
