An Antrim motion to reverse the recent decision to give Kerry permission to recruit players from outside the county under the parentage rule was defeated at last Saturday's Central Council meeting.

At last November's Central Council meeting, Kerry was granted an exemption in the special eligibility rule which states only hurlers at Nickey Rackard or Lory Meagher Cup level can line out for the county of their parent(s), while continuing to play for their home club. The Kingdom have contested the last two Joe McDonagh Cup finals, but a precedent was set when last year's Tier 2 winners Westmeath were allowed to recruit Galway All-Ireland winner Davy Glennon, whose mother hails from the Lake County.

Kerry fielded three former Limerick underage players in their historic Munster Hurling Cup quarter-final win over Tipperary earlier this month, and this hasn't gone well with their Joe McDonagh Cup rivals.

But despite having support from another Joe McDonagh Cup county, Offaly, Antrim's motion failed.
